Lost, utterly defeated.
The Nova-Bane Group they had propped up had just been established, yet Duncan's stunt had instantly turned it into the biggest joke in Highcrest's business world.
All their carefully calculated chain of killing moves had vanished like smoke, and the massive resources they'd poured in upfront had amounted to nothing more than drawing water with a bamboo basket.
"Heh... what a joke!" Quentin laughed out of sheer fury, violently smashing his cigar into the ashtray. "To think I actually counted on a piece of trash like that to suppress Astraea Group! The man was thrown in a cell before we even got the chance to officially cross swords!"
"Mr. Quincy, what do we do now?" Emmett frowned deeply, his tone laced with poorly concealed anxiety. "Phoenix's momentum is too ferocious right now. If we just let her keep expanding, I'm afraid..."
"What are you panicking for? I told you before, as long as I'm holding that trump card, Phoenix won't be able to turn the tides." Quentin narrowed his eyes dangerously, a cold, sinister glint flashing within them.
"But what if..." Emmett took a deep breath, swallowing hard before voicing a chilling hypothesis. "What if Phoenix doesn't actually care whether Yara's father lives or dies?"
The cold sneer on Quentin's face froze instantly, as if he'd been struck by lightning. For the first time, a flash of genuine shock pierced through his gaze.
He had always operated under the assumption that Phoenix and Yara were the exact same kind of person.
Loyal, deeply emotional, and soft-hearted.
As long as Nathan was in his custody, Phoenix would hesitate to act, too afraid to deal the Quincy family a fatal blow.
But Emmett's words felt like a bucket of ice water waking him up.
Right! At the end of the day, Phoenix was merely Yara's student!
She shared absolutely zero blood relation with that old man.
If they pushed this woman too far, it wasn't entirely impossible that she would simply abandon that useless chess piece and ignore the old man's fate entirely!
Moreover, Yara had explicitly instructed Phoenix to look after Duncan back then.
And what was the result? The woman didn't even blink before personally sending Duncan to prison!
At the thought of this, the muscles on Quentin's face twitched slightly, his gaze growing ruthless and unhinged. "It seems we can't let this wild brat run amok any longer."
Emmett's face drained of color, his voice trembling dryly. "Mr. Quincy, you don't mean..." He raised a hand, making a subtle slashing motion across his throat.
High-and-mighty elites like them usually disdained resorting to vulgar violence.
In the business world, simply flicking a finger to stir up some trouble was usually enough to bankrupt a rival and ruin their reputation.
But Phoenix's methods were too bizarre, too completely unhinged!
