The next day, the atmosphere at the lunch table was thick with tension. Markus could barely
swallow his food, his anger simmering just beneath the surface. His mother’s machinations were nothing new, but this time she had gone too far. Matching him with one of her chosen drones was
one thing, but Angelica was really irritating him? The fact that she was a regular visitor of his
mother and her parents, along with other councilor’s families, made it unbearable. Angelica’s
presence at the table, throwing him seductive glances while maintaining her lady-like composure,
was the last straw. Markus was one century old, far beyond falling for these cheap maneuvers.
He looked in his mother’s direction with a pissed look, but there were too many present at the
table to make a scene. His mother played innocent while smiling like a perfect host.
He clenched his jaw as Angelica addressed him, her voice dripping with feigned innocence. “Will
you be joining us for hunting this full moon, Your Highness?”
Stinger, his wolf, was beyond pissed, a low growl reverberating in Markus’s mind. He could feel the
beast ready to explode. He took a deep breath, struggling to maintain his composure.
“I’m not sure,” he replied curtly, his voice tight with barely restrained irritation.
Angelica tilted her head, her eyes sparkling with a mixture of curiosity and seduction. “It would be such a shame if you didn’t join us. It’s always so… thrilling. To… chase your prey and to surrender
to your primal instincts in the process.”
Before Markus could muster a response, a mind link interrupted his thoughts. One of his royal
healers, voice urgent and excited, cut through the haze of anger. “Your Highness, Lady Kaia is
giving signs of waking up.”
His and Stinger’s attention snapped to the message, their irritation instantly replaced by a rush of anticipation. Without another word, Markus pushed back his chair and stood, excusing himself
from the table. “I apologize, but I must leave. Something urgent has come up.”
His mother’s eyes narrowed in displeasure. “Markus, we’re in the middle of a meal.”
He barely glanced at her. “This cannot wait, Mother. Royal matters.”
He stormed out of the dining hall, Stinger practically vibrating with eagerness. They made their
way swiftly to the infirmary, the tension in the air almost palpable. Every step felt like an eternity as
they approached Kaia’s room. Healers bustled around, but Markus’s focus was singular.
The lead healer met him at the door, her expression a mix of excitement and caution. “She’s showing signs of waking up, Your Highness. Her vitals are improving, and there’s been movement.”

Markus nodded, barely able to contain his emotions. He stepped into the room, his heart godin in his chest. Kaia lay there, her face peaceful but no longer deathly still. He moved to her side. taking her hand in his.
“Kaia,” he whispered, his voice filled with hope. It’s Markus. Can you hear me??
For a moment, there was nothing. Then, ever so slightly, her eyelids fluttered. Markus felt a surge of emotions: hope, relief, fear. Stinger was equally invested, his presence a comforting strength in
the back of Markus’s mind.
“Come on, Kaia,” Markus urged gently. “We’re here. We need you to come back to us.”
Slowly, her eyes opened, unfocused and hazy. She blinked, struggling to bring her surroundings into clarity. Markus squeezed her hand gently, leaning closer. That’s it. Just take your time.”
Her lips parted, a faint sound escaping as she tried to speak. “Mar…kus?
He smiled, his heart swelling with relief. “Yes, Kaia. It’s me.”
She closed her eyes again, a single tear escaping down her cheek. Markus felt his own eyes welling up. He brushed the tear away gently. “You’re safe now. We’re going to take care of you.”
Stinger’s voice echoed in his mind, filled with a quiet triumph. “We did it. She’s coming back to us.”
Suddenly, Kaia was hit by a wave of panic. Markus could sense her unrest immediately. She looked around the room with wide, frightened eyes, and then, in a desperate movement, lifted the bedsheet to cover her face as she started to sob uncontrollably. Markus touched her arm with care, his voice gentle but concerned.
