A Night to Remember-2
When the clock neared seven, Kaia took one last look in the mirror. She smoothed down her dress
as she took a deep breath.
Just then, a knock sounded on the door, causing Kaia’s heart to skip a beat. Markus entered the room, dressed in black trousers and a light sage shirt that matched the dress he had chosen for her. For a moment, he stood frozen in place, and Kaia could sense his beast, Stinger, near the surface by the way his eyes flashed with intensity. Then, a wide smile spread across his face as he
looked at her.
“You look breathtaking,” Markus said, his voice filled with genuine admiration.
Kaia froze in place, her cheeks flushing a deep red. She felt a rush of emotions and managed to
muster a weak, “Thank you.”
“Shall we?” Markus gestured toward the door, opening it for her.
She exited the room, her knees trembling slightly. They walked in silence for a few minutes, the quiet of the castle enveloping them. Finally, they stepped out onto a terrace that overlooked a
breathtaking garden.
“It’s beautiful,” Kaia murmured, captivated by the view.
“Yes, beautiful,” Markus replied, his gaze not on the garden but on her.
He held her chair and helped her sit before taking his own seat. Soon, a servant arrived, serving the first course before vanishing discreetly. Everything felt like a dream to Kaia. The serene atmosphere, Markus’s kind presence, and the elegance of the setting all combined to create a
surreal experience.
Markus kept his smile as he engaged her in light conversation. He asked about her brother Azriel, her new sister-in-law Lora, and her nephew, Asher. His genuine interest in her family made her feel at ease. She found herself relaxing with each minute in his presence, the initial stress of the
evening melting away.
As the evening progressed, they continued to talk and share stories. Markus’s humor and easygoing nature made her laugh, and she found herself opening up to him more than she had expected. The tension seemed to fade away, replaced by a sense of connection and
understanding.
When the final course was served, Markus raised his glass in a toast. “To new beginnings and the
promise of what lies ahead.”

After dinner, they walked through the garden, the night air cool and refreshing. Markus pointed out
various flowers and plants, sharing interesting facts about them. Kaia listened, captivated not only by the beauty around her but by the man beside her.
When they reached a secluded bench, Markus turned to her, his expression serious yet tender.
“Kaia, I want you to know that I’m here for you, no matter what. I see you, not just the scars or the
past, but you. And I hope you can see that too.”
Kaia felt a tear slip down her cheek. “Thank you, Markus. Your kindness means more to me than I
can express.”
He gently wiped the tear away, his touch soft and reassuring. “You don’t have to thank me. Just
know that you’re not alone. Plus, let’s make one thing straight. What I feel towards you is not
kindness or compassion. It is desire and greed. Usually, once I set my mind in one direction, there
is no turning back.”
Kaia remained silent as she blushed at his words, but Markus was not ready, “I will try to be as
patient as I can, but I want to make one thing clear: I am planning to pursue you and court you. No
confusions, or misunderstandings or games. All I am asking you is to try and open your heart and give me a chance. We deserve happiness, Kaia, and I strongly believe that we can find it together.
So, what do you say?”
Kaia looked at him while her heart was trembling in her chest. She never expected him to be so
direct, which was making her excited and terrified at the same time. Her wolf, Sierra, moved in her
mind in anticipation, but she could feel her enthusiasm. Remembering the promise that she made
to her beast, she nodded shyly as she replied in a low voice, “I would like to know you better, as
well. Just, no promises. I can try, but… it is hard, Markus. I am scared.”
Markus cupped her face with his hands and told her with eyes full of emotion, “I know you are, but so am I. We will figure this out… together,” as he bent and kissed her lightly on her lips.
It was like a butterfly touch, which electrified her entire being, but before she got the chance to react, he winked playfully at her and led her towards the exit.
As they walked in silence, Kaia felt a sense of peace settle over her, a feeling she hadn’t experienced in a long time. As they made their way back to her room, she knew that this night could mark the beginning of a new chapter in her life.
When they reached her room, Markus kissed her forehead tenderly. “Goodnight, Kaia. I’ll see you tomorrow.”
“Goodnight, Markus,” she replied, while her heart was jumping like crazy in her chest, as she
