Rest in Peace-1

As the evening’s festivities began to wind down, Markus and Kaia continued to receive well-wishes from attendees. The cocktail party that followed the coronation was intimate, with fewer/ attendees due to the pandemic and quarantine measures. Despite the smaller scale, the event held significant weight, symbolizing a new chapter for the pack and the werewolf community.

Official photographs were taken to be distributed throughout the werewolf community and other packs, a substitute for the usual public celebrations. Markus stood beside Kaia, their smiles radiant as the camera captured their unity and strength. After the photos, Markus turned to Kaia, his voice full of promise. “I assure you, my love, that once this turmoil settles, we’ll host a grand ball in your honor. You deserve to be recognized by everyone as their rightful Queen.”

Kaia’s smile was tender, her eyes filled with love as she replied, “As long as I’m with you, a big event doesn’t really matter to me.”

Markus hugged her gently, feeling her warmth and strength. As they embraced, Kaia couldn’t help but notice the envious glances from some of the women in attendance, particularly Angelika, who had been standing beside her father, Councilman Stone, with a shocked expression throughout the

ceremony. Mind-linking Markus, Kaia expressed her concern. *”Is it just me, or does Angelika seem

more shocked than she should be? I knew that she was in love with you, but the look in her eyes is more than usual jealousy.”*

Markus discreetly glanced at Angelika, confirming Kaia’s suspicion. *”Your instincts are right.

There’s definitely something off. Considering she was always close to my mother, we need to keep an

eye on her in case is something more. Jealousy can drive people to unpredictable actions.”*

He immediately mind linked his beta, Atlas, instructing him to place a Praetorian shadow on

Angelika. *”I don’t trust her. Make sure she’s under surveillance.”*

*”Of course,”* Atlas replied. *”I’ve never trusted her either. Consider it done.”*

Shortly after, Lora and Azriel approached them, their expressions a mixture of pride and concern. Lora, with a supportive smile, embraced Kaia. “Congratulations, Your Majesty. How are you holding up?”

Azriel embraced Kaia, his emotions overwhelming him as tears filled his eyes. “I can’t believe my baby sister is queen and soon to be a mother. You’ve made me so proud. How are you holding up… with… everything that happened today?”

Kaia’s eyes glistened with a mixture of sadness and happiness. “I never believed I’d end up here, mated, with a baby on the way… you know well. But the Moon Goddess has her ways. And I was lucky to find Markus.”

Markus smiled warmly at them. “I am the lucky one, my love.”

Azriel looked at his best friend, the two of them patting each other’s shoulders in camaraderie. Despite the respect and brotherly love between them, Azriel’s feelings were conflicted. His entire life, he had sought vengeance against rogues for his parents’ deaths, only to discover the true culprit was Markus’ mother, Queen Tonya, and a councilman. If Tonya hadn’t already met her end, he would have relished making her suffer as much as he, his sister, and their entire pack had due to her petty jealousy and insecurities.

Markus sensed the turmoil within Azriel and asked, “Are we good?”

Azriel nodded firmly. “Always, Markus. You have no ties with this entire situation. You are not

responsible for her actions.”

Azriel couldn’t blame Markus for the sins of his parents, especially since Markus was his sister’s mate, and he was nothing more than supportive all these years with him and his pack. After a few more exchanges, Azriel decided to address the pressing issue. “Markus, we need to talk. We need

to find her accomplice.”

Markus nodded before replying, “Leave this for tomorrow. I just have the perfect plan in mind. For now, rest. We’ve all been through too much today.” Turning to Lora, he added, “Thank you, Lora. You are truly a Goddess’s Gift. I can’t express in words the gratitude we have for you. Because of you, my mate, my child, the other packs and covens are all safe. You have my eternal gratitude and

support no matter what.”
