Angelika stared up at her father, fear flickering in her eyes. If one thing was clear to her, it was that she feared her father, as she knew better than to cross him, especially when he was that angry. She gathered herself from the floor and rushed out of the room, followed closely by her mother who cast a worried glance at her mate before disappearing after her distraught daughter.

Councilman Stone sank heavily into a chair, rubbing his temples wearily. “Finally, some peace,” he muttered to himself, trying to calm his frayed nerves. “What the hell happened today!?” he mused aloud, frustration evident in his voice. “The Queen assured me that she would eliminate Kaia, and

she knew better than to mess with me. One word from me, and I could destroy her.”

He picked up his mobile phone, intent on calling the Queen to demand answers, but to his

irritation, she did not pick up, again. “What the hell? What game is this woman playing?” he

muttered angrily. “Tomorrow, I need to meet with her and teach her a lesson. Queen or not, a deal

is a deal, and I have the upper hand.”

With a heavy sigh, Councilman Stone leaned back in his chair, his mind racing with plans and

frustrations. The events of the day had spiraled out of control, and now he needed to regain his

grip on the situation.

The next day, Markus summoned a grand council gathering. The twelve councilmen assembled, puzzled by the unexpected closed-door session. Whispers filled the room as they noticed the

unusual presence of Azriel and the former king, Anton. Councilman and Alpha Carter, the Head of

the Council, voiced the collective confusion, asking, “What is the meaning of this urgent session

without any prior agenda?”

Markus, standing resolute, addressed the room. “There are a few announcements that need to happen behind closed doors.”

He took a deep breath before continuing, “Many of you probably noticed that Queen Tonya was absent during the crowning ceremony yesterday. The reason behind this absence is grave. The Queen has been unwell for a long time. Unfortunately, I must inform you all that Queen Tonya collapsed yesterday during the crowning preparations at one of the Goddess’s altars.”

A wave of shock and whispers swept through the room. The councilmen exchanged bewildered glances. One councilman asked, “Is she OK?”

Markus, maintaining his serious demeanor, replied, “No, she is not. It is with deep sadness that I

announce her passing.”

The room fell into stunned silence, only the murmur of disbelief breaking the quiet. Markus continued, “I know this is a shock to everyone, but we must move forward. Before issuing an official communication statement, I wanted you all to be aware of the situation first hand. Being a councilman is not just a privilege but an obligation. Your primary focus now is to support my mate,

your new queen, Kaia, in her new role.”

As Markus spoke, the room buzzed with questions and speculation. Councilman Stone felt a crushing weight descend upon him. **What?! That bitch is dead?** he screamed internally. The realization that Queen Tonya had died before fulfilling her promise to make his daughter queen sent him into a frantic mental spiral, desperately trying to devise a new plan.

Markus interrupted his thoughts. “Are you alright, Councilman Stone?”

Stone snapped back to reality, struggling to maintain his composure. “Yes, apologies, Your

Highness. The shock is overwhelming. Can you tell us the cause of her death?”

Markus’s expression remained stern. “No, this is a private matter, and I prefer it remains so. Rest

assured, there was no foul play. The physician conducted all necessary examinations postmortem.

Now, this afternoon, I would like to have another session and discuss the pandemic and the

imminent threat to our peace. But, for now, you are dismissed.”

The councilmen rose and made their way to their cars. Councilman Stone, seething internally,

instructed his driver in a harsh voice, “Take me home.”

A few moments later, the car came to an abrupt halt. Stone, distracted and irritated, demanded,

“What is happening? Why have we stopped?” Receiving no answer, his irritation boiled over. He

exited the car, ready to reprimand his driver, but before he could react, a sharp pain struck his

head, and everything went black.

He collapsed to the ground, unconscious.

Stone slowly regained consciousness, his vision blurry. He found himself in an unfamiliar, dimly lit room, bound to a chair. Panic surged through him as he realized he was not alone. A shadowy figure emerged from the darkness, stepping into the dim light.

“Councilman Stone,” the voice drawled, dripping with malice. “It seems you’ve been playing a very dangerous game.”

Stone’s heart pounded. “Who are you? What do you want?”

The figure chuckled, stepping closer.

Stone’s mind raced, trying to piece together the situation. “What do you want from me?”

The figure leaned in, their face obscured by the shadows. “Information, Councilman. I want to know everything about your dealings with Queen Tonya and your plans to usurp the throne. And don’t think about lying. Your life and your family’s depend on your honesty.”

Stone’s blood ran cold as he realized the gravity of his situation.
