Plans and Hopes-3

Markus watched her, his heart aching for the woman he loved. He could see the turmoil within her, the conflict of wanting to protect this innocent child while also fearing the dangers that lurked around them. He understood the gravity of the decision they were making, and how it could

change everything.

Kaia continued, her voice a little steadier as she spoke of Tim and Dana. “They’ll be here soon.

They’ll take her with them, and she’ll be safe. They have the resources, the protection… and most importantly, they have love to give her.”

He nodded, still conflicted but trusting Kaia’s judgment. He stepped closer, wrapping his arms around her in a comforting embrace. “We’re doing the best we can,” he murmured into her hair.

We’ll make sure she’s safe.”

Markus sank down onto the edge of the bed, his posture slumped in defeat. The weight of the situation pressed heavily on him, and his usually strong demeanor was clouded with frustration and sadness. He glanced over at the small, unconscious form of the little girl lying on the bed, her face peaceful but marked with the faint traces of tears. “Unfortunately, we’ve suffered a setback,”

he murmured, his voice thick with emotion. “Her mother is gone. What are we going to do now

about the Dispell Poems?”

Kaia, who had been pacing restlessly near the window, stopped and turned to face him. The exhaustion in her eyes was mirrored in her soul, but she squared her shoulders, refusing to let the despair overwhelm her.

“I can try to have another vision,” she offered, her voice steady but tinged with weariness. “To see if

there are other survivors, others who might carry the knowledge or the bloodline we need.”

Markus looked up at her, his eyes filled with gratitude and concern. “We’ll do that once we get

home,” he agreed, nodding slowly. “But I need you to rest now, Kaia. You’ve put yourself through

too much today. You’ve done more than enough.”

Kaia’s resolve wavered as she looked at him, seeing the worry etched into his features. She knew he was right, she was running on fumes, the physical and emotional toll of the day catching up with her. But the thought of resting while so much was left unresolved felt impossible.

Markus sensed her hesitation and stood up, crossing the room to take her hands in his. “We’ll keep fighting, Kaia. We’ll find a way. But for now, you need to take care of yourself. If not for you, then for our baby,” he said softly, his hand gently resting on her abdomen.

Kaia’s heart swelled at his words, and she nodded, finally allowing herself to lean into his strength. “You’re right,” she whispered, the fight in her voice giving way to acceptance.

Markus pulled her into a tender embrace, his lips pressing against her forehead. “We’ll find the Dispell Poems, and we’ll make sure this little girl, and everyone else, has the chance to live in peace.”

With that, he led Kaia to the bed, helping her lie down beside the little girl. Markus watched over them both, his protective instincts on high alert, even as his own exhaustion pushed him to rest. But he wouldn’t rest, not until he was sure they were safe. And so, as Kaia’s breathing slowed, and she drifted into a deep sleep, Markus sat vigil, his mind racing with plans for what they would do

next.
