New Parents-2
Dana wiped her tears and looked back at the little girl, her eyes full of resolve. “We’ll protect her
with everything we have,” she promised, her voice filled with determination. “She’ll be safe with us.”
Kaia’s heart swelled with emotion at Dana’s words. She knew this was the best decision they could
make under the circumstances, even though it meant trusting the little girl’s life to others. “Thank
you,” Kaia whispered, her voice filled with gratitude. “Thank you for giving her a chance at a better/
life.”
Markus sighed deeply, his shoulders relaxing slightly for the first time in hours. “Then it’s settled. We’ll help you get her settled, and make sure you’re prepared for what’s to come. But for now, let’s focus on getting her to a safe place where she can begin to heal. And hopefully, once you
reach
back to the pack, Lora can help her with the healing.”
Kaia gently stroked the little girl’s hair, her heart aching as she whispered, “I’m so sorry she isn’t awake before you take her away. I wish I could assure you that she will be okay. Yesterday, she trusted me enough to come to me, but after everything that happened…” Her voice trailed off,
heavy with regret.
Tim, watching the scene unfold with a mixture of concern and determination, turned to Markus and asked, “Do you think she has any other family that might come after her?”
Markus sighed, his brow furrowing in thought. “I’m not sure,” he admitted. The uncertainty in his voice only added to the weight of the situation.
Kaia, still holding the little girl’s hand, looked up at Markus. “I’d like to try again, here and now, to see if there are any others from her bloodline,” she said, her voice tinged with determination despite her exhaustion.
Markus’s expression softened with concern as he nodded. “Just be cautious, my love,” he warned,
his voice gentle but firm.
Kaia gave him a reassuring nod before focusing her attention on the girl. She took a deep breath and closed her eyes, tightening her grip on the small hand in hers. For a moment, nothing happened, and the room was filled with tense silence, But then, flashes of images began to flood Kaia’s mind, a rapid succession of scenes that left her breathless.
When Kaia finally came back to reality, her expression was somber, her face pale as she processed what she had seen. Markus, noticing the shift in her demeanor, immediately asked, “What did you
see?”
Kaia’s eyes filled with tears as she looked at Markus, her voice trembling as she spoke. “I saw the

Lycans… and the old witch who helped them. They were discussing the Dispell Poems. It seemed
they were proud, celebrating, even, that they had eradicated everyone from this bloodline. The
woman they killed yesterday was the last one.”
She paused, her tears flowing freely now. “They know about the daughter, but the witch assured them that, as a child, she has no abilities or knowledge of how to activate or use the Dispell
Poems.”
Kaia’s voice broke as she continued, “They were celebrating and reveling in the details of how they
shot her mother. It was horrible.” Overcome with emotion, Kaia buried her head in Markus’s chest,
her sobs muffled against him.
Markus held her tightly, his own heart breaking as he tried to comfort her. The weight of the
revelation was heavy on them all.
After a few minutes, Tim gently gathered the little girl in his arms, his expression resolute. “We’ll
head back to Stormheart Pack,” he said, his voice filled with determination.
Markus nodded in agreement but stopped them before they could leave. His tone was serious, his
eyes hard as he issued a final warning. “Dana, Tim… no one, but absolutely no one, should know the
truth. Not even her. It’s for her own protection.”
Dana and Tim both nodded in agreement, understanding the gravity of the situation. With a final
glance at Kaia and Markus, they left the room, the little girl nestled safely in Tim’s arms. The door
closed behind them, leaving Kaia and Markus alone with the heavy silence that followed.
Kaia wiped her tears, still leaning on Markus for support. “I just hope we made the right decision,”
she whispered.
Markus kissed the top of her head gently. “We did what we could. Now, we need to focus on the
next step.”
Kaia nodded, but her heart remained heavy with the knowledge of the horrors she had seen, and
the uncertainty of what lay ahead.
