Azriel woke suddenly, the sound of one of his twins crying piercing the quiet night. The familiar walls, which had become part of his nightly routine over the past few weeks, usually calmed his heart. He knew that Lora, his ever-dedicated mate, would soon attend to the babies, feeding them and lulling them back to sleep. But tonight, something was different. The crying didn’t stop.

He blinked, trying to shake off the lingering fog of sleep. As the cries grew more insistent, Azriel

reached out through their mind link to check on Lora.

“Lora, do you need help with the twins?” he asked, his voice laced with concem. But instead of the comforting warmth of her presence, he was met with an unsettling silence.

Azriel frowned, confusion settling in. Lora never closed their mind link, especially not at night when the twins might need attention. A chill crept down his spine as he swung his legs out of bed and

hurried towards the nursery, his heart pounding harder with each step.

When he stepped inside the nursery, the sight that greeted him only deepened his unease. The crib holding the twins stood in the soft glow of a nightlight, but Lora was nowhere to be seen. The cries echoed in the small room, their tiny faces scrunched in distress. Azriel quickly gathered both boys into his arms, their warmth grounding him even as his mind raced.

“Lora?” he called out, his voice low, tinged with growing dread. He moved swiftly through the house, checking the bathroom and every other room. Each one was empty, except Asher’s bedroom, where his eldest son was deep asleep. Lora’s absence was like a gaping void, her usual comforting presence replaced by an eerie stillness.

He considered calling her on her phone, assuming she might have had an emergency at the clinic,

even if it wasn’t like her to just leave without saying something. But when he glanced at the counter, his blood ran cold. Both of their phones lay untouched side by side. Panic tightened its grip on him as he extended his senses, trying to reach out to her, to feel her presence in the pack.

Nothing!

She was gone!

The next few hours passed in a blur of frantic searches and desperate attempts to reach her through their bond. Azriel barked orders to his pack, mobilizing every member to scour the territory. They combed through the woods, checked every building, and questioned every pack member, but there was no trace of Lora. Now, the CCTVs were being reviewed. Azriel’s panic deepened, twisting into a suffocating fear as time slipped away.

And then, his phone rang, breaking the tense silence that had settled over him. Kaia’s name flashed

on the screen, and Azriel answered, his voice a tight thread of control, “Yes, Kaia?”

But the words that followed shattered him.

“Azriel,” Kaia’s voice trembled, thick with tears. “You need to keep an eye on Lora. I had a vision… she was taken. Kidnapped.”

The breath caught in his throat as a cold, numbing terror washed over him. His deepest fear, the one he had been trying to keep at bay, was now a grim reality.

“It’s too late,” Azriel whispered, his voice breaking as he struggled to contain the storm of

emotions inside him.

“What do you mean?” Kaia’s voice was laced with confusion and growing panic.

“No one can find Lora at all, Kaia. We’ve been searching for hours now,” Azriel replied, his voice

hollow, the words barely escaping his lips.

There was a brief pause on the other end of the line, followed by Kaia’s sharp intake of breath.”

What!? Azriel, no!” she screamed, her voice a mix of anguish and disbelief.

Azriel closed his eyes, pressing the phone harder against his ear as if it could somehow anchor

him, “Can you see anything else, Kaia? Who took her?” His voice was strained, desperate for any

shred of information that could lead him to Lora.

Kaia was silent for a moment, the tension stretching unbearably. Then, in a voice heavy with dread,

she whispered, “The Lycans.”
