Over at Gray Enterprises, Serena had already reported for duty. She had woken up at the crack of dawn to do her makeup, thrilled to be one step closer to Gideon. She was as giddy as a bride on her wedding day.
Meanwhile, Lydia was also supposed to report to her design studio today. But the moment she stepped into the courtyard, Catherine's car pulled up, completely blocking her path.
The car door opened, and Catherine Gray stepped out with a dark expression. "I heard Gideon came back, but you couldn't even make him stay?"
"Good morning, Catherine," Lydia greeted her politely.
"This is the divorce agreement. Sign it." The elegantly dressed, aristocratic woman pulled off her sunglasses, holding out the documents and a fountain pen.
The young woman's eyelashes fluttered as her gaze fell upon the bold words "Divorce Agreement." She then looked up, meeting her mother-in-law's eyes. "Is this what Gideon wants?"
"All you need to do is sign. The rest is none of your concern." Catherine's tone left absolutely zero room for negotiation.
Behind her stood two towering bodyguards in black suits, radiating intimidation and waiting for a single command.
Lydia had no choice today. She accepted the agreement and the pen.
From the living room window, Mrs. Gable saw the entire exchange and hurriedly dialed Gideon's number, reporting in a panicked, hushed voice.
"Gideon, something terrible is happening. Catherine is here. She blocked Lydia in the courtyard and gave her some papers... Lydia is signing them right now."
Out in the courtyard, Lydia finished signing and handed the agreement and pen back.
Catherine turned and got back into the car with her men. Lydia watched as the vehicle drove away.
It was early autumn. The autumn breeze had painted the leaves in warm shades of gold, orange, and brown. A few fallen leaves spun gently in the wind before resting on her shoulder.
If she had refused to sign, Catherine probably would have used force, wouldn't she?
Honestly, looking at it from another angle, maybe this was for the best.
Lydia gathered herself and drove to Nexus Design Studio. She didn't drive a luxury car, just her reliable compact sedan.
Perhaps she had never truly adapted to her identity as Mrs. Gray. Over the years, every cent she spent was money she had earned herself.
She was hired purely on the merit of her portfolio. Nexus Design Studio was a well-known independent brand in the country.
