"Hello, Stella. Mr. Gray just called me directly. He explicitly requested Lydia to be the liaison for the project."
"What?" Stella was stunned, but she knew Leona had no reason to lie.
"Stella, perhaps you should verify this with Mr. Gray on your end?"
"No need. Tell her to come back in tomorrow." Stella had no choice but to compromise. "At Gray Enterprises, Mr. Gray's word is law."
"Understood." Having delivered the message, Leona hung up the phone.
Stella stood frozen by her desk, completely bewildered as to where things had gone wrong.
Mr. Gray dealt with billion-dollar global affairs. Why would he personally intervene in something this trivial??
Regardless, she picked up her office phone and bit the bullet, calling Lydia.
When the call connected, she started by apologizing for the earlier incident and requested that Lydia return the next day.
"Lydia, this came directly from Mr. Gray. If you don't show up, it's going to be very hard for me to explain. To be honest... I am genuinely very interested in your design concept."
After all, inside this building, Gideon's orders were absolute decrees.
"Alright." Lydia didn't push it. She lowered her phone after Stella hung up, her thoughts drifting elsewhere.
She had seen the news of Jeffrey Jenson's return.
Sitting on the sofa, she took a sip of the milk Mrs. Gable had brought her, scrolling through the headlines on her tablet.
They said girls grew into their looks, but clearly, the same applied to men.
Jeffrey was easily six-foot-three, with exquisitely carved features and an aura of effortless aristocratic elegance. Even in unedited, raw photos, he looked flawlessly handsome from every angle.
Yet, he still gave off a clean, refreshing, almost boyish vibe.
Lydia thought to herself, *He's back. Maybe he has the answers I need.*
A bold idea began to form in her mind: seek out Jeffrey and ask him directly about that day twenty years ago. He had been there.
She wanted to ask him how Xavier had actually fallen off that cliff.
