The doors to The Mrs. Gray Collection on the second floor were wide open. By the time Gideon appeared in the doorway, Lydia had already changed into a gown.
She stood in front of the full-length mirror while Maisy adjusted the intricate details of the hem.
Gideon gazed at her from behind. The overhead lights cascaded down, highlighting her soft, stunning curves.
The deep blue gown was studded with dazzling rhinestones that shimmered like a starry sky. The skirt cascaded to the floor like liquid water, making her look absolutely breathtaking.
"Hello, sir," Maisy quickly greeted upon spotting him. "Mrs. Gray is all finished changing."
Lydia turned around, the skirt sweeping in an elegant arc. A hint of apprehension laced her gentle gaze.
She wore no makeup, her face clean and naturally radiant, with her hair casually pinned back. Yet, she looked flawlessly beautiful.
Gideon stepped inside, his Adam's apple bobbing slightly. For a brief second, this woman left him completely mesmerized.
"What do you think of this one?" Lydia asked, terrified that it wouldn't match his taste. But honestly, it was the only one that covered her properly.
Gideon snapped out of his daze, his handsome face betraying no emotion. His eyes slowly swept over her, ultimately resting on her fully concealed back.
Then, he shifted his gaze to the nearby display case and pointed. "Wouldn't that purple one with the tassels look better?"
Lydia's expression stiffened slightly, a bitter tang hitting her heart.
Maisy quickly lowered her voice to explain. "Sir, the dress Mrs. Gray is wearing perfectly covers the scar on her back." You must know your own wife has a massive scar, right?
"..." Gideon had, in fact, just remembered. He frowned slightly but said nothing more.
"I'll take this one," Lydia said, the corners of her lips turning up into a faint smile. She turned to Maisy. "I'll change out of it. Please wrap it up for me."
"Right away."
Earlier, when Lydia had left her office and gotten into his car, someone had snapped a picture of her profile.
The photo was crystal clear. Since she was a complete unknown, the internet couldn't immediately identify her. But the moment the news broke, the speculation about her identity ignited.
