Lydia's mood was equally terrible. She didn't go to Gray Enterprises for her assignment today; instead, she headed straight to Nexus Design Studio.
"Lydia, what exactly is your relationship with Mr. Gray?" Leona Lockwood asked, her curiosity piqued. "Heritage Atelier is the Gray family's private boutique... Are you his wife?"
She had pieced it together from all the previous clues.
Now that her cover was blown, Lydia naturally stopped hiding the truth.
A faint, awkward smile touched Lydia's lips. "I'm embarrassing myself in front of you, boss. I just haven't been smart enough to handle my own marriage properly."
"You really are?!" Leona looked as if she had just discovered a new continent. "That's incredible! You're actually Mrs. Gray?! You managed to marry such a phenomenal man!"
She might not be for much longer. She had to sign the divorce papers; otherwise... her mother would pay the price.
Her mother had spent the first half of her life suffering. She had only enjoyed a few years of peace, and Lydia couldn't bear to see her dragged down because of her own mess.
Her mother-in-law had given her a one-week deadline.
But by the sixth day, Gideon showed absolutely no signs of coming home. It was as if he had vanished off the face of the earth again.
Even though she visited Gray Enterprises twice for her assignments, she never got the chance to see him. He was always in business negotiations or locked in meetings.
Tomorrow was the final day. She had asked Dave and found out that Gideon had a gathering tonight at The Velvet Lounge.
So, bringing the divorce agreement and a fountain pen, she gathered her courage and headed out.
If he still refused to divorce her, she would force him to deal with his own mother! She wouldn't let innocent people suffer.
The evening wind was biting, carrying the chill of late autumn.
