His striking features looked as if they had been chiseled from marble, and his proportions were flawless. He carried an innate, overwhelming presence that completely set him apart from everyone else in the room.
"Why are you flying solo?" Logan peered behind him. "Where's your wife? You've been married for five years, and you still haven't brought her out to meet the guys?"
"Good evening, Mr. Gray," a waiter quickly scrambled to pour him a drink.
He tossed his jacket aside and replied, half-joking, half-serious. "My wife is far too gorgeous. I don't want you vultures drooling over her!" As he sat down, his gaze casually drifted over Jeffrey.
Jeffrey felt the stare. His pale, flawless face betrayed no emotion, looking completely unreadable under the dim lighting.
"Jeffrey." Gideon raised his glass, breaking the silence. "To you. Welcome back."
Jeffrey looked up and clinked glasses with him. "Thanks."
The rest of the men joined the toast, and the atmosphere instantly became lively.
Harrell teased, "Man, if you had taken any longer, Jeffrey would have drank us all under the table! Showing up late to a welcome party? You have zero respect!"
"I'll take the three penalty shots!" Gideon poured his own drinks. "Traffic really was a nightmare."
At that exact moment, Lydia arrived at The Velvet Lounge. Following the room number Dave had given her, she made her way upstairs and stopped outside the suite.
"Hank told me you actually took your wife to Heritage Atelier?" Harrell never knew when to shut his mouth, gossiping like a housewife. "Rumor had it that things were rocky between you two, but clearly they're great! I guess she'll eventually earn her spot in the Gray family plot? Taking her there is basically making her official."
Outside the slightly ajar door, Lydia froze in her tracks upon hearing those words.
Peering through the crack, she saw the men inside. Gideon was there, and so was Jeffrey. One of the other men was Serena Sterling's older brother, and she barely recognized the last one.
