Chapter 117
I was so caught up in the moment, I forgot for à moment that I’m not supposed to know how to dance. I was reminded of my role when I saw the furrow between his brows. To him, I was just an Omega, and Omegas weren’t supposed to know these dances, let alone be as good at them as I was.
Dancing had always been a thing I enjoyed doing, and I was rather good at it, for I do say so myself. But at this moment, I couldn’t be that girl anymore. I needed to be Cecilia, the Omega… not Cecilia, that fairly skilled and knowledgeable Alpha she-
wolf.
Without thought, I purposely tripped over my own feet, making him have to catch me before J hit the ground, or worse… knock him down with me. I gave him a sheepish smile before he attempted to twirl me. But instead of going right back into his arms, I tried to do another twirl until I was too dizzy to see straight, and I ended up stepping on his toes.
“Ouch,” he said, releasing his hold on me. “You started strong… what’s happening right now?”
“I’m not sure what you mean,” I lied, giving him another sheepish smile. “I’m not very good at dancing, I’m afraid.” “Bullshit,” he said through his eyes, his eyes narrowing. “You were doing fine a minute ago. What’s changed?” “Nothing. I suppose a minute ago was only a fluke,” I tell him, lifting one shoulder. “Shall we continue the lesson?”
I gave him an innocent smile…. possibly a bit too innocent because I swear I saw the corner of his mouth twitch, like he was trying to suppress a laugh.
He didn’t end up laughing, though. Instead, he put his hand on my waist and started to guide me around the room again. The way he moved… he was so uptight. I was starting to doubt that I was the one who needed to take lessons.
“What if she likes to dance and you scare her off with your stiff shoulders and tense jaw?” I asked, raising my brows at him.
He frowned at me, his brows furrowed slightly.
“What do you mean?”
“You are dancing like you’re made out of rusty tin,” I tell him, stepping out of his embrace for a moment so I can get a better look at him. “Your posture is too stiff, and you look like you’re about to kill somebody. Dancing is supposed to be fun… not so serious.”
“I don’t find dancing enjoyable,” he murmurs.
“And if your mate does?” I countered.
“I will deal with it when it’s time for me to deal with it,” he said, his voice void of emotion.
“Do you hear yourself?” I asked, a laugh escaping me. “Deal with it? Like she’s some problem you need to solve and not your mate. Dancing is about being set free and having fun. There’s a real chance that you could scare her away before anything even begins.”
He stared at me for a moment longer. At first, I thought he was going to curse at me or have the Gammas take me away because I had upset the precious King. But he didn’t do any of those things.
“And what exactly do you think I should do?” He asked after a long silence.
“For starters….we need music. Real music,” I tell him. “And secondly, you need to learn to smile.”
“I smile.”
“Rarely,” I comment. “Your mate might not like broody. You’ll scare her away.”
I was surprised by the sound he made; it was a snort. When I looked at him, I could see the slight amusement on his face.

Did he laugh?
I know Warren definitely would have laughed at that.
“And how exactly should I act around my mate?” He asked, his eyes following my every movement.
“Like you can’t get enough of her,” I answer simply. “Like you have been waiting your whole life for her because I guess technically you have been.”
“You seem to know a lot about mates for someone who hasn’t found hers,” he commented, his eyes searching mine.
I lifted one shoulder.
