The Alpha King's Mind Reading Maid (Cecilia) novel Chapter 178

Chapter 178

I loosened my grip on her throat entirely, but kept my hand anchored around her wrist.

“Why?” I asked. “What have I done to deserve your hatred?”

For Anna to have agreed to this… she must hate me too. Or maybe my father threatened her with something.

She blinked rapidly; tears burned in her eyes.

“You really have to ask?” Anna asked, rubbing her aching throat. “Do you really not know?”

The shattered remains of my heart were beating rapidly in my chest.

“I wouldn’t ask if I knew,” I told her.

She let out a scoff and shook her head..

“I had been a prisoner of your pack my entire life,” she said through her teeth, angry tears finally leaving her eyes. She didn’t bother to wipe them away. “My mother served yours for over a decade and had always been loyal to your family. Always loyal to your mother.”

She spat out the words like they were a bad taste on her tongue.

“And then she was killed.”

My heart stopped in my chest.

“What?” I asked.

“Don’t play stupid. You knew all along that your bitch of a mother killed mine in cold blood for no other reason besides jealousy and resentment,” Anna shot back. “After her death, I was forced into slavery by your father. Having to tend to the very family who destroyed my world.”

“So, that’s it…” I whispered, my voice hoarse. “You are after revenge?”

“I was after justice,” she hissed.

“How did you get the Moonshade?”

“I brought it from our pack… You, out of everyone, should know that they grow out in the wild there,”

Part of me was relieved to hear that it wasn’t my father who sent her…. but I was gutted that someone I thought was my friend could betray me like this.

“You know if you were caught, you’d be punished,” I said. “Why risk it?”

“I have nothing more to lose,” Anna said, her eyes were now red-rimmed. I could see the emotions and pain swirling in her eyes, and it broke my heart. “I’d rather risk my life than let you live another day. Your mother killed mine, and now it’s time for you to die!”

She struggled against my hold, trying to take a shot at me with her hand, but I was stronger and taller than her. It wasn’t hard for me to hold her off.

I could imagine a young Anna, alone and afraid in this world, losing the only person in her life… and having it happen at the hands of someone she once respected. I might not remember much about my mother… but I knew with certainty that she would never do what Anna was describing.

It wasn’t making any sense.

My mother had always been kind… everyone in the pack loved her and missed her so much when she died. I remembered how sad the entire pack was… how sad my father seemed. But then once Diana came into the picture, it was like all of that was wiped
