Chapter 217
goes over to the door and pulls it open, and he refuses to look at me. He was so cold and it left me feeling chilled.
Landon stood on the other side of the door, his eyes wide when he saw Leopold.
“Get her out,” Leopold demanded, his eyes narrowing at Landon. “I told you not to get her.”
“I had no other choice-”
“Your choice was to do as I said,” Leopold hissed.
Then he turned to me.
“Get out.”
“I’m leaving,” I tell him, holding my hands up in defense.

Just as I started to walk out of the study, a wave of dizziness washed over me, and I stumbled over my own feet. Suddenly, Leopold’s arms were around me, just as my eyes fluttered shut.
“Cecilia.”
He said my name in a way that made me think that maybe he was actually worried about me. Like he cared. The room was spinning entirely, and I felt a bit sick to my stomach. It was strange, but I felt my heart pounding against my ribcage.
I took a breath, trying to steady my rapid heart. I knew Leopold was trying to say something to me, but I was focusing on keeping the room from spinning too much. Once I finally got a handle on myself, I opened my eyes.
“I’m taking you to the healers,” Leopold told me as he lifted me off the ground. I was suddenly pressed against his chest as he stepped out of the study, still carrying me.
“Your Majesty?” I heard Sophia saying from nearby.
He turned to spot her standing there, her eyes wide.
“Cecilia almost fainted; I’m taking her to the healers,” Leopold explained.
Sophia’s eyes flickered to me.
“Oh my gosh,” she breathed, faking her concern. “Let me come with. I want to make sure she’s okay as well.”
She stepped towards us but then immediately fell, her eyes closing as she landed on the ground.
Leopold set me down on the ground and without checking to make sure I was standing on my own feet; he rushed to her. I nearly stumbled from the sudden weight of me being on my feet, but thankfully, Landon was there to steady me.
“What happened?” Sophia asked as she slowly opened her eyes.
“You fainted… are you alright?” Leopold asked, and the concern in his voice made me feel ill.
“Yeah… I’m…” she started to say, but then she started to pass out again.
Without thought, Leopold lifted her off the ground, carrying her just like he had carried me.
“I’m taking Sophia to the healers,” he said over his shoulder, rushing down the corridor.

“What about Cecilia?” Landon asked with a frown.
Escort her back to her room… she will be fine.”
Landon and I stared after him, dumbfounded.
After a moment, he turned to look at me, a pitiful look in his eyes.
“Let me escort you to your room,” he said, offering me his arm.
I let out a breath and took it without argument; we went back to my room without speaking, and once we reached my door, he released his hold on my arm.
“I apologize for His Majesty’s attitude towards you, Cecilia,” Landon said, surprising me. “He’s been through lot throughout his life. I hope you don’t take what he says to heart.”
I press my lips together.
“It’s hard not to when he consistently tells me that I’m a mistake,” I murmur. “Good night, Landon.”
I step into my room and shut the door.
By the time I’m done changing into my night attire and was ready to hop into bed, there was a knock on the door. I assumed it was Landon; perhaps he forgot he needed to tell me something.
