Chapter 259
cilia’s POV
Warren came out of nowhere.
I hadn’t even realized he was in the area. It didn’t make any sense because moments ago, Leopold was in the ballroom with Sophia, acting like a happy couple.
Warren’s growl was so loud and fierce that it shook the grounds, nearly knocking me off my feet. His teeth were bared and deadly, sending a chill down my spine. Instead of the normal golden tint in his eyes, they were blazing red with fury, and I wondered if he was actually in there at all.
The rogue turned its head at the sound of Warren’s growl, his body much smaller in comparison. He tried to get to his feet after being knocked down, but one look into Warren’s eyes and he was trembling where he stood:
Warren didn’t even have time to think about leaving; he sprang forward, snapping his canines in the direction of the wolf’s throat, and then he watched as the crimson shade pooled out of the rogue, splattering across the forest grounds.
I let out a scream, though it was drowned out by the two wolves snarling at one another.
The rogue was no match when it came to Warren. He tried to keep up his own, but it was no use. Warren had him pinned again within seconds, his teeth ripping through fur and flesh, blood spattering all over the place, nearly missing me by an inch.
With a loud howl into the night’s sky, Warren dipped his head one last time, his claws digging into the rogue’s chest, until his heart was beating no more.
Then… there was nothing but silence.
My heart was hammering so hard against my ribcage, I thought it might explode. I hadn’t even realized that Lora was now at the surface, watching everything through my eyes; her own curiosity piqued.
I couldn’t take my eyes off the matted blood collecting on Warren’s dark fur. He was still breathing heavily; his eyes shifting all around the forest as if he expected there to be more rogues nearby. I didn’t smell any… but then again, I barely smelled this one.
He dipped his head into the dirt and gave it a sniff as he searched around the perimeter. I went to back away, to get back to the palace and to safety, but Warren whipped his head in my direction, his lip curling as he let out a snarl.
He was too far gone to use actual words, but I knew exactly what he was commanding.
Stay.
I wanted to make some remark that I wasn’t a common dog, but I thought it might be better if I kept my mouth shut. Warren was not in a playful mood, and honestly, I couldn’t really blame him.
Our last conversation was anything but good; I was cruel to him, and I’m honestly surprised he was out here saving my life.
Which led me to question… why was he out here saving my life?
He patrolled around the area for a moment longer; his face buried in the dirt as he sniffed the grounds. He lifted his head again and again, listening for distant sounds. Every one of his instincts was flaring.
When he didn’t spot any more rogues, I noticed his body visibly relaxing.

He turned to look at me again, his eyes returning to their normal golden shade, though my heart remained in my hreat.
