Chapter 270
food sat in bowls by their small cots; some of which had mold growing on them. I wondered if this was my fate ….if Leopold was truly cruel enough to treat me like he would a rogue.
If he knew I was pregnant, would that still become my fate?
These rogues reeked from being unbathed, and bile rose in my throat as the scent only grew worse. It only made Lora retreat even further away, and I feared that spending much more time here would make her vanish forever.
I had never felt this distant from her before, and it broke my heart.
Though the further we got into the dungeons and the more cages I saw, I hadn’t seen Anna at all and it made my stomach drop slightly.
She was here, wasn’t she?
We finally reached a cage towards the back of the dungeons, and one of the guards released me long enough to grab the keys and unlock the padlock.
Just as soon as he released me, he was grabbing me again and roughly pulling me into the cage. It felt a bit smaller than the others, and there was already a hole dug in the corner for bathroom use; I didn’t plan on using it.
The thought made me feel sick to my stomach.
I fell to the ground, my arms instinctively moving to cover my belly before it hit the hard ground. When I looked up at them, I saw no remorse in their cold eyes. It made whatever I was about to say die in my throat, knowing it
would be no use.
They didn’t bother speaking a word to me; not that I thought they would. The gammas turned and stepped out of the cage, locking it into place before they left, leaving me alone with nothing but my thoughts and a massive headache.
“Well, if it isn’t the King’s precious concubine,” I heard a voice from one of the cages; I didn’t recognize this voice, but she sounded old, and her voice was strained from disuse. “I’m curious to know what you did to land yourself here.”
I pressed my lips together, refusing to speak. I wasn’t going to let these rogues get to me. I needed to figure out how to get out of this place alive and prove my innocence. I wasn’t letting Sophia get away with this.
“Not going to talk, huh?” She asked, letting out a chortled laugh. “Too good for us?”
“Leave her alone, Monica,” a man said, his voice also strained from disuse; he coughed, and I could hear the mucus in his lungs.
It made me wince.
“She’s been through enough, clearly.”
The woman, Monica, let out another laugh.
“Aren’t you curious about the girl? We’ve only heard stories about her from that other one that used to be here. What was her name?”
“Anna,” the guy muttered. “She had a mouth on her. Told us plenty of stories… but I’m sure most of them were rumors. You’re too old to gossip with a young girl. Aren’t you tired of it yet?”
“We’ve been here for half our lives, Robert. What else is there to do?”

The guy, Robert, didn’t bother responding. But something he had said made me lift my head in surprise.
nna…” I said softly, my voice coming out barely above a whisper, but I knew it would be enough for them to hear. “Did you just say that she is no longer here?”
“Oh, so she can speak,” Monica murmured.
“Yeah, she’s not here anymore,” Robert confirmed, ignoring Monica. “She was broken out of here by some lady.”
