Chapter 273
Cecilia’s POV
Apologize?
I almost laughed out loud… he can’t be serious.
I pressed my lips together and turned away from him.
“I’d rather rot here,” I murmured, surprising even myself by how true those words were.
I felt his aura darken; his anger snapping through the air like a whip.
He was suddenly right in front of me, his scowl so fierce that I sucked in a sharp breath and stepped away from him, needing that space between us.
“You’re going to apologize to her, Cecilia. And then me and you are going to have a chat,” he said through his teeth, his eyes narrowing.
I turned to look at him, my eyes boring into his-a challenge.
For a moment, I saw a flicker of surprise cross his eyes; I’m sure nobody, let alone a woman, ever dared to challenge him before. And yet, here I was, staring at him like he was the one beneath me.
If I didn’t… I would fall to the ground and beg him for his forgiveness like his Alpha aura suggests. But I wasn’t that weak girl anymore… I wasn’t a pushover. I was carrying the King’s baby, and I needed to protect it at all costs. I needed to save some of that dignity and use it as my ticket to get the hell out of this palace and away from Leopold and my rotten family.
“You want an apology?” I asked, my voice surprisingly calm despite the storm raging inside of me. “Fine. Take
me to her.”
Not even I knew what my plan was… but I knew one thing for sure… Sophia wouldn’t get an apology from me even if I were on my deathbed.
Leopold snarled as he grabbed my arm; it wasn’t as rough as the gammas last night, but it was firm enough to let me know he wasn’t playing any games. He pulled me out of the cage, and I noticed the wide-eyed look of some of the rogues that remained in their cages, their eyes following my every move, wondering what was going on with the King and his concubine.
He pushed through the dungeon doors with so much force, I thought it had broken off its hinges, that is, until it swung shut behind us as we made our way up the steep stairs.
By the time we reached the top and were back in the main palace area, I had to squint to see properly while my eyes adjusted to the brighter lighting.
We walked in silence; his hand was still around my wrist.
“Do you truly believe I am capable of such a heinous crime?” I finally asked as he quickened the pace down various corridors.
“I’ve lived long enough to know that anyone is capable of anything if they have the right motive,” Leopold said, his tone clipped.
I frowned.
“And what would my motive be?” I asked.

“You were upset after receiving that letter yesterday,” he told me, as if it were fact.

“Have you gone mad? Why would I be upset after you’ve finally given me what I’ve been wanting?” I asked, shaking my head. “I had no intentions of remaining here after the wedding, and you know this.”

“I did until we had sex,” he muttered. “It got to your head, I’m sure. You now want more, and you’ve taken it out on my fiancé.”
I let out a bitter laugh.
“If that’s what you think… then I suppose you truly do not know me.”
My voice dropped an octave, and his steps faltered… but it was only for a moment before he composed himself and continued on his way, dragging me along with him.
