Chapter 276
Which is exactly why you’re going to find me proof that helps her,” I said without hesitation. “We can’t let her get punished for something she didn’t do. But we need to keep this on the down low for right now.”
Landon nodded.
“I’ll see what I can do.”
“Your Majesty,” I heard from the doorway of the hospital unit; Alpha William came towards me, his eyes arrowed “Why is Cecilia out of the dungeons? Shouldn’t she be paying for her crimes?”
“She was punished last night,” I told him. “I brought her here to apologize to Sophia. Nobody was killed… I apologize that Sophia was injured because of my concubine, but all is safe for right now. She regrets her actions”
My voice was hard as I forced those words out of my mouth, knowing they were untrue.
Alpha William curled his lip in disgust.
“She should be killed for what she had done. She threatened the life of our future queen.”
“And yet Sophia is still alive,” I said without hesitation. “If you question my authority again, I’ll make you regret ever stepping foot in this palace.”
Alpha William’s face paled even more as he stepped back.
“I’m only looking out for my daughter,” Alpha William said, his voice coming smaller. “Is that a crime?”
“No, but you questioning the King is treason, and I won’t allow that again,” I told him. “Stand down, Alpha. Or you won’t go easy on you if this happens again.”
I sounded cruel, and I was aware of that; but at that moment, I truly didn’t care. I wasn’t a fan of Alpha William or his wife. Something about them both rubbed me the wrong way; as did Sophia.
I turned on that note and started towards my study.
“Where are you going? Shouldn’t you be with your mate?” Alpha William called after me.
I ignored him, letting out a low huff as I stormed away.
I barely noticed Landon following me until I reached my study door and stepped inside.
“Your Majesty, don’t you think you were a little too cruel to your mate’s father?” Landon asked, raising his brows. “He’s only protecting his daughter,”
I didn’t reply; I just stepped towards my desk and sat down, resting my face in my hands and letting out a low growl of aggravation.
Landon sighed as he stepped closer to the desk.
“What’s truly on your mind, Sire?” He asked, tilting his head to the side. “There must be more than just proving Cecilia’s innocence. Why does it matter to you that much? Isn’t she just your concubine?”
I looked up at him, anger and regretted simmering inside of me, and I’m sure he could see it in my eyes.
“Watch your mouth, Landon. Don’t forget who you are speaking to.”
My feelings for Cecilia were starting to grow more complicated with each breath I took, and it was clouding my

judgment. But they couldn’t be helped.
apologize,” Landon said, dipping his head slightly before lifting his gaze back to mine. “But I must ask you something… and I don’t want you to be upset by this question. It’s just genuine curiosity.”
I let out a breath and leaned back in my scat, my eyes resting on his.
“What is it?” I asked, my voice was tired and sounding as defeated as I felt.
Landon swallowed and kept his eyes on mine.
“I read the note that you left for Cecilia in that box,” he confessed. “The one where you told her that she’s free to go after the wedding.”
