Chapter 282

ke only really scratched the surface of this place.

By the time we reached the bar, the scent of alcohol hit me like a ton of bricks.

There was loud music playing on the large stage and inen I hadn’t seen clinking their beer glasses together at a table in the far distance.

Then there were a few women who sat together, sipping wine and enjoying their nightly gossip sessions, chuckling with one another.

At the far side of the room was the bar.

It was huge, with an oak countertop, and every liquor bottle imaginable hung up for display on the wall behind the bartender, who looked to be a man in his early 40s.

He was cleaning out some of the glasses before pouring a glass of scotch in a cup and sliding it down the bar at the man sitting at the end. His head was down, and his back was towards me, but I knew who he was in an instant.

My eyes narrowed at the sight of my father, taking a large sip of the scotch he had been given. I had never seen him look this messy before, and it turned my stomach at the sight of him.

Warren took hold of my hand and pulled me away from the scene. Before I could ask him what he was doing, he pulled me around the corner, and we ended up walking down a long hallway in silence before he pushed open another door and peeked around the corner.

I realized we were much closer to my father now; only now could I see his face. He was pale and looked as if he had aged a thousand years since I’d lived in the pack with him. He was tired and worn out; he was nursing what seemed to be his second or third glass of scotch, judging by the state he was in.

Both the shadows and the wall hid us so that he couldn’t see us. Even if he wasn’t intoxicated, he probably wouldn’t see us anyway.

Warren kept his hand on the small of my back, a grounding gesture, and I wasn’t sure if it was for him or for me, but I welcomed it.

Just then, Diana walked out of the bathroom, crossed the room, and headed towards my father. She looked furious; her lips were pressed together, and her hands were placed on her hips. She wore a red dress that hugged her figure and showed off every curve. It was also very revealing… showcasing too much skin, and it made some of the men turn their heads.

It was quite scandalous.

She wasn’t paying attention to them, though; she had her eyes fixed on my father, and I knew she was about to scold him for embarrassing her in such a way.

An Alpha getting drunk in the King’s bar was frowned upon and disrespectful. Especially when that Alpha was about to marry off his daughter to said King.

“Are you out of your mind?” Diana asked, stopping in front of him, his eyes narrowed. “Haven’t we had this talk before? You can’t drink yourself stupid while we are here, William.”

“Shut the fuck up. I’m on vacation. I can drink if I want to,” my father embarrassingly slurred.

“People are starting to stare,” Diana hissed. “Can’t you go one night without drinking? Your daughter is about to get married, and she doesn’t need her Alpha father making a scene.”
