Chapter 286
worried you wouldn’t come see me… as I scared you away,” she said, batting her lashes. “I’m glad you’re here”
“You need more rest,” I told her, trying to keep my tone casual and warm, though even I could hear the hard edges around the surface.
“I hadn’t been able to sleep,” she admitted softly. “I was too worried that fruined things with you… that you were with her.”
“You don’t need to worry about that,” I told her. “Cecilia will be returning to her pack after the wedding.”
Relief flooded her face, and she gave me a large smile.
“You’re not keeping her?” She asked, as if Cecilia was nothing more than a useless possession.

It made my skin crawl and my blood boil, but I swallowed it down, ignoring the darkening of my vision and tried my hardest to stay in control before I lost myself again.
“No,” I said through my teeth. “I’m not.”
She didn’t seem to notice my tone change, and without thinking, she wrapped her arms around my waist, burying her face in my chest.
“You have no idea how happy that makes me,” she whispered. “I can’t wait until I can have you all to myself.”
I was about to pry her arms off me and step back, to gain some distance between us, but a voice in the halls halted
“Cecilia, please… at least think about it… okay?”
“I will, Victoria,” Cecilia said softly. “I promise. I’ll come back later. I promised some of the girls I would have breakfast with them this morning in the tearoom.”
“Very well,” Victoria said. “I will see you in the afternoon then for your later appointment.”
My brows furrowed; her later appointment?
What the hell was Cecilia doing in the hospital and why did she need to come back later for an appointment?
I started towards the door, disregarding Sophia altogether, almost forgetting that she was wrapped around me until I stepped away. She almost fell out of bed but caught herself before it got to that point.
She let out a shriek, though, and it stopped me at the door.
“What are you doing?” She asked. “Are you leaving to go after her? Again??”
I pressed my lips together.
“It’s not your concern. Get some rest. I’ll check on you later,”
With that, I left the room.

It was always about Cecilia… she was always the one people wanted. She was the pretty one… the strong one.. the better one. And now she was all Leopold could think about even though Sophia was right in front of him-Sophia, who was supposed to be his fated mate.
She pressed her lips together as the door shut behind him, and then she folded her arms across her chest.
It wasn’t fair.
She had done everything right; she was the perfect bride and future Queen, and yet he could barely spare her a second glance when it came to Cecilia.
Sophia didn’t like losing.

Just then, the door creaked open, and a young maiden walked in carrying a tray of special urbs and soup.
“Good morning, Madam,” she said, bowing her head slightly. “I brought you some soup.”
Sophia glared at the girl as if she personally offended her, and her face paled.
“Sorry… am I interrupting something?”
“Set that stuff down and leave,” Sophia growled, not in the mood for conversation.
“Of course,” the girl said as she set the tray down.
Sophia’s eyes drifted to the tray and her eyes widened at the small flower that lay decoratively beside the bowl of
soup.
“What is that?” Sophia asked before the girl could leave.
She looked at the flower, a soft smile lighting up her face.
“A wildflower orchard,” she replied. “It’s a rare flower. I thought you might like it”
A wildflower orchard. She hadn’t seen one of those since she was a kid, and Cecilia nearly died by just touching one. She was extremely allergic to these flowers.
At that moment, an idea surfaced in her mind.
“Did you know they make wonder tea leaves?” She asked, staring up at the girl whose cheeks reddened.
She nodded slowly.
