The Alpha King's Mind Reading Maid (Cecilia) novel Chapter 303

Chapter 303

e thought unsettled me more than I cared to admit.

“Sire, Madam Maevis has arrived. I offered to show her to her room, but she insisted on seeing you first,” Landon said as he walked into the room.

The corner of my lips curved; I hadn’t seen Maevis in years. She was the old witch who used to reside in this palace when I was young. She’s a family friend who told me about the prophecy and how to break the curse on my

wolf.

She was here for the wedding that was supposed to happen in less than 2 days. The thought made my stomach churn with unease.

Shouldn’t I be happy over the fact that I found my mate and I was going to marry her? Then, why did it still feel like a work of fiction… like there was a piece of a much bigger puzzle missing?

The tailor sighed and stepped away.

“I suppose now is a good time for a break anyway,” he murmured.

He bowed before he and the others left the room.

“Have you heard anything?” I asked as soon as we were alone.

“About Cecilia?” Landon asked.

I nodded.

“Nothing. The gammas you sent to keep watch of her haven’t reported anything yet,” Landon answered.

I swallowed; I couldn’t shake the feeling that something was wrong. I might not be able to communicate with my wolf, but I could sense his unease… it was mingling with my own.

Before either of us could say anything, the door swung open, and a familiar old woman stepped in.

“Since when am I not greeted properly in the place that used to be my home?” Maevis asked, her hands on her hips and her eyes narrowed in my direction.

Her silver hair had been braided into a thick crown around her head, tiny charms woven into the strands that chimed softly with every step. Layers of dark emerald robes flowed behind her, embroidered with ancient runes that shimmered whenever they caught life.

Despite the wrinkles lining her face… her bright amber eyes were as sharp as ever.

When the corner of her lips lifted, I went to her for a hug.

“Maevis,” I said, as she laughed. “It’s good to see you.”

She pulled back and touched my face gently.

“You seem tired,” she commented. “What has you troubled?”

“You can tell?”

“Have you forgotten who I am? Leopold, you should be thrilled. You finally found your mate. You can finally break that curse,” she reminded me.

“Sorry to interrupt…” another voice said from the doorway; my stomach dropped when I saw Sophia standing there, her eyes almost timid, though it felt like an overplayed act. “I was looking for the King. We are scheduled to have a couple’s portrait drawn in the gardens this evening.”

“And who might this young lady be?” Maevis asked, raising her brows at Sophia.

Sophia smiled as she stepped forward, moving her hair away from her neck to reveal the mark I supposedly left on her.
