Chapter 304
cilia’s POV
Agony.
That was the first thing I felt: overwhelmed by pain and fear
A dull, throbbing ache pulsed through the back of my head, spreading down my neck and onto my shoulders. Every inch of my body screamed in protest as consciousness slowly returned.
I groaned, my eyelids fluttering open.
Nothing but darkness greeted me.
We… not completely darkness. Thin slivers of moonlight filtered through the tiny, barred window high above my head; way above my head, casting a pale stream across a damp dirt floor.
Dirt?…
Confusion washed over me; this wasn’t my room. It wasn’t my mother’s bedroom…
My heart lurched.
I shot upright, only for a wave of dizziness to slam into me so violently that I nearly collapsed again. The metallic rattle of chains echoed through the room, and I winced at the burning sensation as my skin fought against the silver.
Chains? Silver?
My eyes darted downward, and my stomach dropped when I saw the cold iron shackles circling both my wrists, lashed to heavy chains bolted into the stone wall behind me.
My ankles were bound as well.
Panic exploded inside my chest.
“No….”
I tugged hard, a desperate cry leaving my lips. The chains didn’t even budge; I pulled at them again, but still nothing.
They had me completely restrained.
“Lora?” I whispered.
Silence.
It was quieter than the silence I was becoming used to. At least then, I could feel her presence despite it being in the furthest part of my mind. But now… it was like she wasn’t there at all.

“Oh, Goddess… please… let my baby be okay,” I begged silently, clutching my belly as hope flickered within me.
osed my eyes, forcing myself to breathe despite the panic threatening to consume me. There wasn’t any pain… no cramping or bleeding. I had to hold onto the hope that it meant my baby was okay.
“I’ll get us out of here,” I say, my voice laced with certainty.
The heavy wooden door creaked open; I quickly wiped my face against my shoulder just as four familiar figures entered.
They were the masked gammas; the ones who claimed to be sent by King Leopold. I definitely didn’t believe them … he wouldn’t have done this.
One of the gammas was carrying a lantern, and another carried a bucket of water. The tallest one stepped forward, and I saw he was smiling beneath his mask; it sent a chill down my spine.
“Look who’s finally awake.”
No one said a word; I lifted my chin and curled my lip.
“If you expect me to beg…”
His laugh echoed off the stone walls.
