Chapter 52
Leopold’s POV
She was lying.
She had to be lying.
There was no way she could hear my wolf. But the things she knew… it didn’t make any sense. Standing to my feet, I turned to face her, my eyes narrowed.
“Leave my room,” I ordered, pointing at the door.
“This is my room, Your Majesty,” she reminded me.
Fuck.
I forgot I was in her bedroom. I still wasn’t entirely sure why I was here, but I wasn’t going to question it right now.
“Right,” I muttered, clearing my throat. “Then, I’ll be leaving.”
I started to walk toward the door, but her words stopped me.
“You don’t believe me?” She asked, standing slowly to her feet. “After what I had already told you?”
“What you’re saying is insane,” I said, refusing to hear any more of this bullshit. “I’m not talking about this with you. I’m leaving.”
I started to walk away again, but something made me freeze. It was like some internal want that I couldn’t explain. Something that wanted to stay in this room with her… to hear her out… to talk with her.
When I looked at her, she was nibbling on her lower lip, and my eyes were suddenly drawn to the shape of her plump lips. The way her teeth kept tugging it into her mouth. I swallowed, lifting my gaze to meet her eyes again; she wasn’t looking at me. Thank God for that.
But she did look a bit dejected. I couldn’t gauge her expression, and it was bothering me more than I cared to admit.
She knew that I couldn’t communicate with my wolf; how did she know such a detail? Only Landon knew that information. Was she some spy? But even so, how would she uncover something that I’ve kept hidden my entire life?
“How did you know about my wolf?” I asked, making her lift her head and meet my eyes.
“I already told you…” she started to say, but I held up my hand to stop her.
“You told me a lie; I want to know the truth.”
“I’m not lying, Your Majesty. You can choose to believe me or not, but your wolf is lonely, and he’s taking his aggression out on innocent people,” she said, smoothing down the skirt of her sleep gown. “Perhaps you were right, you should be going.”
The fact that she was now trying to get me to leave set me over the edge. I could feel my face reddening with rage, though there was also a strange sense of calm inside of me that I couldn’t even explain if I wanted to. Nothing about this situation made sense, but most of all… she wasn’t making any sense.
Even Landon had told me that she calmed my wolf before… I trusted Landon more than anyone else in my life. I know for a fact that he would never lie to me, so his telling me that Cecilia was the reason my wolf didn’t attack anyone this past week made me want to find out more.
I stepped into Cecilia’s space, ignoring the way she sucked in a sharp breath at my sudden proximity.
“You don’t get to tell me to leave,” I scowl. “And I’m not leaving until you give me answers.”
She swallowed, her throat working overtime.

“What are the questions?”
I stared around her face, and she looked almost poised.
“If you know that I can’t communicate with my wolf, then you must know the reason, I said, my eyes never leaving hers.” Nobody except for Landon knows the truth, and he would never tell you.”
She hesitated for a moment, like she was afraid of what to say next. The corner of my lip tipped, and I was about to smirk, having called her out on a lie. But then she straightened her shoulders and parted her lips.
“It was an evil witch,” she said, making my blood turn to ice. “Your wolf, Warren, told me that she put a curse on you both when you were a young, young boy. A Wolf Witch saved him, but was never able to break the-”
I moved so fast she didn’t see me coming. One moment she was talking, and the next, my hand was around her throat, and I was pressing her against the wall on the far side of the room.
