The Alpha King's Mind Reading Maid (Cecilia) novel Chapter 53

Chapter 53

I released her with a jolt, as she had burned me. She fell to the ground, her hand flying to her throat, rubbing the tender spot that I was grabbing. She was breathing heavily, trying to catch her breath; her chest heaving and her cheeks rosy.

I grabbed my wrist and stared down at my hand, tny frown deep and my brows furrowed. I felt a tingle from touching her, which was the reason I released her so suddenly.

None of this was making any sense; usually, when I got this angry, I ended up blacking out, and my wolf would take control. Typically, there would be a dead body in front of me when got control back.

But my rage seemed to be only one-sided; my wolf was content, which was strange because he was never content. Though I couldn’t hear or communicate with him, I could feel his comfort. There was a lingering trust that I couldn’t explain, but when I looked at Cecilia, the feeling only grew more powerful.

I had no idea what it meant, but I was determined to find out.

“Tell me about when you first heard him,” I said, my eyes still on my hand, as if it had betrayed me.

She was quiet for a while; it got to the point where I didn’t think she was going to answer. I was about to repeat myself, giving her a warning in the process, but then she spoke.

“The first time I ever met you,” she said, her voice barely above a whisper. “I was chosen for some basic tasks to prove myself. It was me and the other Omega, Lucy. You were sleeping, and Lucy was a tad over the top… that was when I heard him.”

I thought back to that morning. I woke up to this maid leaning over me, her breasts pushed out, and she was batting her long lashes. I remembered the anger I felt in that moment before everything went black. When I got control back, she was dead. That was when I saw Cecilia.

The way she looked at me was like she was trying to figure me out.. not like I just killed someone in cold blood right in front of her. Though I’m sure she was disgusted with me and terrified, I couldn’t help but wonder why my wolf left her alive in the first place.

And why did he insist on sleeping by her side night after night?

“What did he say?” I found myself asking.

She swallowed, her eyes meeting mine.

“He said it was too loud,” she answered. “Lucy must have woken Warren before she woke you. He didn’t like that she was talking. I tried to stop her, but she wouldn’t listen. At first, I thought it was your voice I heard. But then I realized it wasn’t. I don’t think I knew what it was at the time. But then I kept hearing II… every time he took control… I could hear his anger.”

I didn’t reply right away. I just stared at her. She took a deep breath before she continued speaking.

“And then one day, you were asleep. And Warren took control and asked me if I could hear him. I told him that I could, and he was overjoyed. He was happy because he finally had someone to talk to. He wasn’t alone anymore. He assured me that he doesn’t kill at random. He only does it to protect you. He also told me that he doesn’t kill friends… and he made me his friend.”

Her words made me snap, “You can’t be friends with my wolf!”

She flinched at the harsh tone I used, but I was angry… and maybe a little jealous. Not that I’d ever admit that out loud. But why would this girl be able to hear my wolf when I can’t?

“Isn’t the fact that I am still alive proof enough?” She asked in a whisper. “He had every opportunity to kill me… I had put myself in the middle of countless attacks and only suffered minor injuries. Your wolf doesn’t want me dead because we are friends. Just think about how angry you were when you choked me just a few minutes ago, and yet I knew with certainty that Warren had nothing to do with it. That was all you… You didn’t lose control once during this conversation.”

She pulled herself to her feet, her eyes remaining on mine.
