Chapter 73
“Your Majesty…” Diana, theirLuna, said, her words coming out choked. “There’s a misunderstanding. Cecilia is my stepdaughter, and she’s always been atroubled girl-”
“Enough,” I said, a bite to my words. “This pack answers to me. Not a woman playing dress-up in stolen authority.”
The insult landed; she flinched and stepped back.
“Cecilia is unstable,” another girl said, stepping beside the Luna. They looked alike, only she was a younger version. “She came back here dressed like a slave so that she can get revenge. She’s upset that our father prefers me. She’s just jealous.”
“Sophie-“Diana said, trying to get her daughter to stand down.
The more I heard the girl’s shrill-sounding tone, the angrier I grew. I could hear Landon befrind me, trying to get me to calm down, but I wasn’t listening to him. For once, my wolf and I seemed to be in perfect harmony with one another, and though I still couldn’t hear his voice, it was as if we were one unit.
I rounded on her, my eyes turned into deadly slits, and my lip curled up in disgust.
“You aren’t even worth my attention,” I said through my teeth. “Get out of my way.”
The girl, Sophie, was standing in front of me, blocking my way to my destination. She stared up at me for a beat longer, and I could see her resolve cracking. When she saw that I was serious, she stepped aside, her body trembling slightly.
I didn’t speak another word; I allowed the silence to grow as I made my way towards Cecilia. She was standing now, and her body was shaking slightly. I couldn’t tell if it was out of anger or fear, but there was a worry in her eyes as I approached.
I didn’t speak, I just moved. I wrapped my arms around her and lifted her off the ground, cradling her bridal style. Her arms flew around my neck, and she let out a gasp of surprise, her cheeks becoming redder by the second.
I was aware of all the eyes on us, but at this moment, I didn’t care. I turned and started towards the car, my movements careful. Landon was already in the car, opening the back door for us. I helped Cecilia into the car before I got in myself, shutting the door behind us.
I knew everyone in the pack was basically staring at this car, but if I looked back at them, there’s no guarantee that I would be able to keep the control that I have. My wolf was pissed… I could feel it. Whenever he got this way, all he wanted to do was kill, and he’d take over the second he got the chance.
The silence only grew between us; I could feel her body trembling, and I didn’t try to make her feel better. I was pissed off with her for the stunt she pulled.
By the time we reached the palace, I was still fuming. Landon was quick to open our doors, and without a word, I lifted her back into my arms and carried her out of the car and into the palace. My steps were quick and purposeful. She kept a tight hold on me as if she were afraid she would fall.
I brought her into my room, slamming the door behind me, and only then did I release my hold on her.
“What the fuck were you thinking?” I finally said to her, my eyes blazing with anger; it made her flinch.
“I needed answers.”
“What kind of answers?” I asked through my teeth. “If I hadn’t seen Jax getting his post covered so he could take you to that pack, I wouldn’t have known you were gone. Do you have any idea how stupid that was?”
I let out a growl of anger, and she sucked in a sharp breath.
“Warren, please…” She said, holding up her hand. “Calm down before you lose yourself completely.”
I narrowed my eyes.
“I’m not Warren, I’m Leopold,” I gritted out.
