Chapter 72
Leopold’s POV

“LET. HER. GO!”
The command tore from my chest before I consciously decided to speak. Every head in the courtyard snapped in my direction.
Cecilia’s body was half-dragged across the stone, her wrists caught in the grip of two guards. Her hair had come loose from its covering. Her cheek was scraped. Dirt streaked across her pale flesh.
She was wearing the rags of a slave.
Rage didn’t build.
It detonated.
The air shifted instantly; even before I moved, I knew the entire pack could feel it. Many had gathered when they saw Cecilia being dragged by guards and humiliated by their Luna.
The guards released their hold on her immediately, and then each of them dropped to one knee, placing their fists over their hearts and bowing their heads in respect to me. I scowled at the sight, angry and on edge. I could feel my wolf vibrating inside of me; and though I couldn’t hear his words, I knew without certainty he wanted to take control and kill every single person who laid their hands on her.
This might be the only time we’ve ever truly been on the same page.
“What are you doing?” the Luna asked the guards; her eyes blazing with fury. “I am the Luna, and I command you to finish what you were doing!”
“Sorry, Luna Diana,” one of the guards said, refusing to lift his head. “But the King outranks you, and we must obey his orders.”
Diana’s face paled, and her body stiffened.
“The King…” she said, her voice dropping to a whisper before she slowly turned in my direction, her eyes going wide. “Your Majesty… what a pleasure it is to have you at our pack. I wasn’t aware of your arrival. We would have been more prepared.”
“Silence,” I said, my voice leaving no room for argument.
She was quiet within the second, clamping her lips shut.
My eyes found Cecília, who was pulling herself to her feet. She looked tired… dirty… and a little bruised where the guards had manhandled her. The bruises on her wrist and the scrapes on her legs nearly sent me over the edge.
My eyes immediately found one of the guards, who I knew was holding onto her wrist hard enough to bruise.
“You,” I said, pointing to him. “Are you responsible for the bruises around her wrist?”
The guard’s face went completely white, and in that moment, I knew I had the right guy. I didn’t have to line his hand up with the bruising on Cecilia’s wrist to know with certainty. I glanced over my shoulder at one of my guards and gave him a quick nod.
He knew exactly what to do at that moment; my guards were significantly bigger than these, and they were way more trained. Not to mention, royal guards will always rank higher, so they have a bigger influence over wolves.
The guard howled in pain as my guard beat him in front of everybody. Cecilia looked away, probably unable to stomach the cruelty in front of her. I probably should have gotten her out of here first, but I was too pent up with anger to think straight. At least my wolf was allowing me to keep control… for now. He was still on edge, and I knew that I might lose control at any
moment.
Then again, he’s unpredictable where Cecilia is concerned.

“And you,” I said, my eyes turning in the direction of another guard. “You’re responsible for the scrapes on her legs?”
“Y…Your Majesty,” he stammered, clearly nervous.
