Chapter 20
With his height advantage, Landon saw the ride-hailing screen on her phone.
He asked, “There’s no traffic restriction today. You didn’t drive your own car?”
Elise looked up, turned off her phone, and replied indifferently, “No.”
She walked past him and headed toward the elevator used by regular employees.
In the past, she always took the CEO’s private elevator with Landon.
He felt, for a moment, as if a pet he had raised had ignored him.
His expression cooled as well. He turned and walked in the opposite direction, widening the distance between them.
There were still two minutes before the end of work when Elise arrived at Firefly Glow’s office building.

proposals right at closing time.
Though impatient, she still accepted the proposal with both hands out of professionalism.
She was about to throw it into the trash after the woman left, when Elise said seriously,
“This project was previously mentioned to Mr. Nash. Please treat it seriously and forward it to the project department. It won’t harm you.”
After speaking, Elise left the building.
The receptionist hesitated, then became cautious and did not throw the proposal away.
Although there were rumors that Firefly Gaming Platform would no longer cooperate with external channels, no official notice had been issued yet. She decided it should still be forwarded.
Just then, the project Mr. Bennett passed by the first floor.
The receptionist asked for his opinion.

Elise returned to Maplewood Estates, only to find the elevator again stuck at the sixth floor.
She took the stairs home.
Passing by unit 601, she noticed the door was open glanced inside.
It had already been renovated into a gray-and-white luxury interior.
There was movement in the elevator lobby.
She turned her head.

Four people were carefully carrying what looked like a custom-made bed, moving with extreme caution as if afraid to damage it.
Two others were carrying an “I-shaped” concealed steel support frame.
The White family was in the home furnishing business.
When Elise was a teenager, Sharon often brought her to their factories.

She vaguely remembered seeing a bed like this in a high-end furniture magazine.
The bed and mattress were made of materials worth
millions, designed to improve sleep quality.
It did not need to be mounted to the wall; instead, it was supported in the center by a heavy I-shaped steel frame weighing over fifty kilograms.
From any angle, the bed looked as if it were suspended in midair by magic.
It was called a floating bed, priced in the seven figures.
Why would someone rich enough to buy this live in such a modest residential complex?
The thought flashed through Elise’s mind.
She returned home, closed the door, and suddenly became worried about something else.
That floating bed in unit 601 weighed two to three hundred kilograms.

Maybe she should consider moving.
When she opened her eyes again, it was a new day.
Unfortunately, it was raining.
Her injuries were due for stitch removal, so she went to a community clinic.
The doctor asked how she got injured. She only pressed her lips into a bitter smile and said it no longer hurt.
In the past few days since moving out, neither Leonard, Sharon, nor Dora had asked where she was staying.
Even Landon did not know she had moved out.
That was fine.
She had already decided to overturn the chessboard she had been placed on. She no longer needed anyone’s warmth or pity, nor would she waver again.
Elise held her umbrella and walked into the heavy rain.
Her phone rang. It was Firefly Glow’s front desk

“Hello, Ms. White, this is Firefly Glow headquarters. Do you have time now? Project Mr. Bennett would like to speak with you in detail.”
“Yes, I can be there in about forty minutes.”
After hanging up, Elise felt a surge of overwhelming joy.
She even felt like jumping up in excitement, but she was
used to restraint.
While waiting for the ride-hailing car, she still could not calm down.
Was today the day she could finally negotiate the termination of the engagement with Landon?
After today, would she no longer have to see him every day?
She gripped her umbrella tightly.
Her excitement surged chaotically in her chest.
She lowered the umbrella to hide herself completely, clenched her right fist, and quietly, secretly, happily 17:14 shouted, “YES.”

raised the umbrella properly again, and returned to her composed posture while waiting at the intersection./
At Firefly Glow’s gaming division floor, Elise happened to see Mr. Bennett coming out of the conference room.
After a brief greeting, she was taken to a meeting room.
