FORGOTTEN WIEETS
The Bride He Took for Granted
Chapter 71
Landon wore a blue-and-white striped dress shirt with the sleeves loosely rolled at the wrists. His suit jacket was draped over one shoulder, hooked between two fingers of his left hand.
He looked polished and relaxed, almost carefree.
“Elise, open the door.”
After what had happened the last time Landon got drunk, Elise stayed silent.
Through the security camera, she watched his expression tighten with impatience.
“I know you’re home. The lights are on.”
A beat passed.
“We need to talk.”
Elise reached up and turned the deadbolt instead.
She’d never imagined she would have to be more wary of Landon than of some stranger trying to break in.
“Elise, I’m counting to three. If this door’s still closed when I’m done, whatever happens next is on you.”

Chapter 71
“One… two…”
Afraid he’d start pounding on the door and disturb the neighbors again, Elise reached for her phone to call building
management.
Before she could, an unfamiliar man barked from outside.
“Hey! Keep it down and get the hell out of here!”
Elise looked at the camera. A tall, broad-shouldered stranger in sunglasses was glaring at Landon like he was ready to throw a punch.
She was sure she’d never seen him before.
Then again, that wasn’t surprising. She left early and came home late almost every day. She barely knew anyone in the building.
Landon didn’t look the least bit intimidated.
He gave the man a cold glance, then ignored him.
The man’s face darkened.
“My wife just had a baby. Make one more sound, and I’ll knock your teeth out.”
Dandon didn’t even look at him.

His eyes remained fixed on Elise’s door.
“Don’t come to me for help when you need it.”
Elise gave a bitter smile.
I won’t.
The White family didn’t matter to her anymore.
Without that leverage, they had nothing left to hold over her.
Landon lingered for another moment, staring at her door.
Then he finally looked away, turned, and shouldered past the man on his way out.
The man spat after him.
“What a piece of shit.”
Before leaving, he glanced at Elise’s door one last time.
When there was still no movement inside, he slipped into the stairwell and made a call.
“Mr. Nash, he’s gone.”
Ble listened for a moment.

“Understood. I’ll keep an eye on things.”

Landon hated smoking. When he was upset, he drank.
He called Jason and Ethan, asking them to meet him at their usual nightclub.
Jason turned him down, saying he had to work late. In the end, only Ethan showed up.
Seeing Landon’s sour expression, Ethan asked, “What happened to you now?”
Landon took a drink and said bitterly, “I went to see Elise, and she wouldn’t even open the door.”
Ethan wasn’t surprised.
“Of course she didn’t. Look at everything you’ve done.”
“I already broke things off with Joan. I even went to see Elise myself. What more does she want?”
Ethan stared at him. “Do you think you’re some kind of free pass? That just showing up means Elise has to forgive you?”
Wasn’t that how it had always worked before?

Why was it different this time?
“You seriously need to stop
Ethan was about to say more when a commotion broke out
outside.
“She’s kinda short, but she’s young.”
“That uniform doesn’t hide much.”
“How much do you make waiting tables? Spend one night with us, and you’ll make more than you do in a month.”
“Let go of me! Touch me again, and I’m calling the police!”
The moment Landon heard the woman’s clear, defiant voice, his expression changed.
He set down his glass and pushed open the private room door.
Joan stood outside, her eyes red as she struggled against two large men.
The moment she saw Landon, she turned and tried to leave.
But one of the men grabbed her by the hair and slammed her into the wall.

Landon’s face turned cold.
He kicked one man away, then stepped forward and caught Joan before she fell.
“Mind your own business! Do you even know who I am-”
