The Bride He Took for Granted

Chapter 77

Elise refused to take the blame for that.

Joan had acted without integrity. Harold knew what she had

done.

Anyone in his position would have made the same decision.

If she were in his position, Elise would have made the same choice, no matter how talented Joan was.

Daniel answered for Harold.

“Why are you dragging Elise into this? Did you do something to offend her?”

Seeing the anger and helplessness on Joan’s face gave Elise a quiet sense of satisfaction.

With a calm, unbothered expression, she walked toward the elevators.

To her surprise, Harold didn’t take his private elevator.

One hand in his pocket, he stood near the employee elevators, taking a call.

The other employees noticed Harold standing there and

Harold glanced back, ended the call, and stepped into the elevator.

Elise wasn’t afraid of him. She followed him inside and pressed the button for her floor.

Firefly Glow required employees to maintain a polished appearance at all times, so the elevator walls were covered with mirrors on all four sides.

Unless they deliberately looked away, their eyes were bound to

meet.

Holding her bag with both hands, Elise tried to make small talk and asked another pointless question.

“Why did you… fire Joan?”

She thought Harold would say it was because Joan was not a suitable employee.

Instead, he turned his head and looked at her profile.

“I didn’t want someone secretly thinking I’d lost my mind.”

Elise blinked.

Oh God. He heard that.

Joan’s proposal had been rejected.

Firefly Glow would not adopt her idea.

She could take the proposal elsewhere if she wanted.

On top of that, Finance had paid her in full for her internship period.

Her coworkers didn’t know whether to envy Joan or feel sorry

for her.

Since Firefly Glow was founded, she was the first person personally fired by Harold.

It was humiliating, and Joan cared about appearances more than anything.

“I gave that project everything I had. I went through the payment app proposal word by word. I wouldn’t even allow a single punctuation mark to be wrong.”

“I even named it SmartPay Star. I wrote the tagline directly into the proposal: ‘Take control of your finances. SmartPay is the smarter way to pay.’ My team leader and the marketing director both said it was excellent.”

unless it was because of Elise. But what does my work have to do with whatever happened between them?”

In Landon’s office, Joan looked at him with tears in her eyes and poured out all her grievances.

Her neck stiffened with tension, and the tissue crushed in her hand had already become a damp ball.

Landon pulled her into his arms and comforted her.

“This isn’t your fault. Harold is just petty.”

“It might actually be for the best that you left. Take a few days to rest first.”

Landon lightly patted Joan’s shoulder, but his thoughts slowly drifted elsewhere.

Everyone knew Harold was so fair and impartial that he could seem cold.

How could he possibly fire Joan because of Elise?

Did he like Elise?

Impossible.

Eyeryone knew Elise belonged to Landon. They had ben· 13:21

She had no personality and was boring…

But to be fair, Elise’s appearance was flawless.

At that thought, Landon let Joan go and called Elise.

“Come back to Novatech right now.”

Elise’s voice was calm but slightly distant.

“The contract is about to be signed. I can’t leave right now.”

“You said it’s about to be signed, not that it’s already done. The operations plan is finalized. They don’t need you there anymore. Come back.”

Before Elise could respond, Landon hung up.

Joan had been devastated moments ago.

But the moment she heard Elise was returning to Novatech Global, she quickly pulled herself together.

Caleb worked at Novatech Global.

If Elise came back, would the truth about the pads be exposed?

Besides, if Elise and Landon spent more time together, the chances of them getting back together would increase

significantly…

Joan quickly wiped away her tears and forced herself to smile.

“I’ve thought it through. Harold let his personal feelings affect his decision. Even if they asked me to return, I wouldn’t go back. My next job will definitely be better than Firefly Glow.”
