The Bride He Took for Granted

Chapter 81

It sounded almost like he was pouting.

Faced with this side of Harold, Elise couldn’t help softening her voice, even though she didn’t know what else she could do.

“You’re so drunk. You wouldn’t remember even if I told you.”

Just then, hearing the click of dress shoes approaching outside, Elise knew Daniel had arrived.

She gently removed Harold’s hand from the hem of her blazer.

Once Daniel came in, she bent down to pet Blitz, then hurried back to her own apartment.

Daniel had no idea what had happened between them during those thirty minutes.

Still, he had cleared the time and given them the opportunity.

That was enough for him to report back to Laurel later…

“Mr. Nash?”

“Mr. Nash, wake up.”

& me clean you up first, then I’ll help you get to bed.”

Daniel bent down and hooked Harold’s arm around his neck.

Just as he was about to lift him, Harold suddenly pulled his arm

back.

“Don’t touch me.”

Daniel looked utterly confused.

“Mr. Nash, I’m trying to help you.”

Harold wrinkled his nose.

“You don’t smell good.”

Daniel sniffed his arm, then his suit.

He didn’t smell sweaty at all.

If anything, there was only a faint trace of cologne.

He glanced thoughtfully toward the door, then cautiously asked, “Did the woman who looked after you just now smell better?”

Harold nodded.

Daniel’s eyes widened.

Seriously? Barbecue?!

After returning to her apartment, Elise showered, washed her hair, and did her laundry.

She didn’t get to bed until the middle of the night.

At six in the morning, before her alarm could even go off, a phone call woke her.

Cynthia sounded frantic.

“Elise, something happened.”

The moment she heard those words, Elise was wide awake. She sat up in bed.

Cynthia explained that she had been overwhelmed the previous day and had sent Joan’s translated in-game text to the overseas licensing company without reviewing it.

Within an hour, the company had removed Novatech Global’s game from its platform.

Several of Joan’s UI strings and character lines had been

mistranslated.

They threatened to stop promoting the game and demanded gongpensation for their losses.

“What do we do, Elise? I should have asked for your help.”

Elise had no desire to deal with Novatech Global’s problems, especially when this mess had been caused by Joan.

But she was still an employee.

As long as she held the position, she had a responsibility to do her job.

She threw back the covers, got out of bed, and opened her laptop.

Her first move was to send a formal apology to the overseas licensing company on behalf of Novatech Global.

She explained that the mistake had been an oversight and never intended as disrespect toward their religious beliefs.

She also voluntarily suspended the game’s operations in the affected region.

Then she closed her laptop, quickly got dressed and washed up, and headed to the office.

In the CEO’s office, Joan held Landon’s hand so tightly that her fingertips had turned white.

“I’m sorry. I really didn’t mean to do it. I reviewed it over and

over, but I still missed such an important detail.”

Every word Joan said carried guilt and sincerity.

She looked as though she wanted to slap herself.

Only yesterday, she had promised not to let Landon down.

Today, she had created such a huge problem.

Elise must be happy about this…

“It’s okay. I saw that Elise has already sent them an apology. She’ll take care of it.”

Landon reassured her softly.

The day before, Joan had skipped lunch because of work. Even though she was on her period, she hadn’t gone to the restroom

once all afternoon.

That night, she had stayed late, reviewing everything over and over again because she was afraid her first assignment would go

wrong.

He had seen all of it.

After arriving at the office, Elise worked with Landon. Jerry, and

They removed the problematic wording and rewrote every sensitive section.

Elise and Landon then video-called the client to discuss

compensation.

They offered to extend the free maintenance period and lower the revenue share for another six months.

After three hours, even Landon grew slightly impatient with the client’s repeated negotiations.

Elise, however, remained calm the entire time. She answered every question patiently and responded to every request promptly.

Only after that did they regain the client’s trust and resolve the dispute.

When they left the conference room, Cynthia let out a long breath of relief.

“Thank goodness you were here, Elise. I’ll be much more careful from now on. I definitely won’t ask Joan for help again.”
