The Cold Surgeon's Contract Bride novel Chapter 130

I met Vivian's intense gaze and asked, "So what are you saying?"

"If you don't resign, then divorce."

She said it with absolute certainty. I knew she wasn't joking.

I gripped my phone, turned on the speaker, and said calmly, "Did you hear all that, Ferris?"

A second later, Ferris's deep, magnetic voice crackled through the speaker. "I'm on my way. We'll talk when I get home."

He hung up immediately.

Vivian sat there completely stunned. She looked at me, then at the phone, repeatedly jabbing a finger in my direction. "Good, very good! Sneaking a call to complain to Ferris. You've got some nerve!"

Watching her throw a fit, I replied serenely, "You're overthinking it, Vivian. I just figured arguing with you here was a waste of breath. We might as well bring the person actually involved in this and hear what he has to say."

Since the divorce was practically set in stone, I had absolutely no desire to be anyone's scapegoat at a time like this.

Hearing my response, Vivian crossed her arms and glared away, putting on a show of refusing to speak another word to me.

Ten minutes later, the man of the hour finally stepped into our line of sight. Vivian shot Ferris a look, then glanced at me, keeping her face icy and silent.

But her sheer displeasure with me was practically spilling from her eyes.

Taking it all in, Ferris walked over with steady steps and sat down on the sofa. After a moment of silence, he said, "Mom, you misunderstood. This really has nothing to do with Selena."

Vivian exploded the moment the words left his mouth. She pointed right at me and snapped viciously, "Even now, you're still making excuses for her?"

"Calling the cops on Curtis was my own decision," Ferris explained, his voice smooth and steady. "I know settling this privately would have been more dignified, but it also would have given certain malicious people leverage over me. It might have even become a stumbling block for my future promotions. Rather than risk that, I chose to blow it up myself. I wanted everyone to know that if they intern under me, playing dirty tricks won't work. Even if it's my own intern, I treat everyone the same."
