The Cold Surgeon's Contract Bride novel Chapter 41

Zelda's loud voice made my temples throb.

Once I steadied my feet, I looked toward the sound and saw several familiar faces standing not far away, including Zelda, Zoey, and Ferris standing right beside her.

So, this wasn't a dream?

I wearily pinched the bridge of my nose. A moment later, I heard Zelda's booming voice again. "I was wondering where Dr. Hayes went. Turns out she's over here flirting with a handsome guy... wait, Dr. Lennox?"

Leon gave a faint nod. "What a coincidence."

Zelda looked at me, then at Leon, her confusion evident. "So, did Dr. Lennox come here specifically to pick up Dr. Hayes?"

Leon was taken aback for a second. He paused before replying, "I was in the booth next door with some friends."

"That's quite a coincidence," Zoey's sweet voice drifted over as she approached. "Would you like to join us for a drink, Dr. Lennox?"

I physically cringed at the word "drink."

Thinking about the countless glasses of alcohol I had been forced to down in the booth earlier, my stomach churned violently.

Someone steadied my arm, and Leon's gentle voice reached my ears. "Should I take you home first?"

I forced my eyes open, trying to pick out Ferris's face among the crowd, but I was completely out of energy.

"I'd appreciate that, Dr. Lennox," I managed to squeeze out.

Before leaving the club, I vaguely heard Zoey calling out her goodbyes. "Drive safe, Dr. Lennox! Please take good care of Selena for us."

How polite of her.

Outside the club, I tried to ask a nearby waiter to hail a cab for me, but Leon flatly refused.

"It's not safe to take a cab at this hour, especially since you've been drinking," he said with firm resolve. "We live in the same neighborhood anyway, so just consider it a ride home."

Realizing my brain was practically mush, I finally nodded.

Half an hour later, Leon parked in our building's garage. A hint of hesitation flickered in his eyes. "Which building do you live in, Dr. Hayes? Do you need me to walk you upstairs?"

I couldn't bear to keep lying to him and shook my head. "No, I've got it."
