Clutching the documents, I stormed off to find Ferris.
It was only after I stepped into the elevator that I realized I didn't even know his room number.
It was laughable. Our names were right next to each other on our marriage certificate, yet even while staying in the same hotel, I knew absolutely nothing about my own husband's itinerary.
I had no choice but to bite the bullet and head to the concierge desk on the first floor.
"Excuse me, what is your relationship with Mr. Sterling?" the receptionist asked earnestly, giving me a quiet once-over.
I froze for a second. The word 'husband' almost slipped out, but after a moment of hesitation, I settled on, "We're colleagues."
"Since you're colleagues, wouldn't it be easier to just give Mr. Sterling a call?"
I had to hand it to this five-star hotel; their staff's security awareness was top-notch.
I pulled out my phone and tapped the screen. "I'm only asking because he isn't answering his phone."
The receptionist shot me a hesitant look, glanced at my screen, but didn't immediately reply.
I was already furious, and being blocked by so-called client privacy policies from getting my own husband's room number made me feel like I had been entirely useless as Mrs. Sterling all these years.
After a couple of seconds of thought, I sighed in frustration. "How about this? If I can recite Dr. Sterling's social security number perfectly, could you please either call his room for me or just give me his room number?"
Hearing the mention of his social security number seemed to lower the receptionist's guard.
However, I had barely rattled off the first few digits when the receptionist interrupted me with a polite, "Mr. Sterling."
I followed the staff member's gaze, only to discover that Ferris was standing right behind me.
His expression was freezing.
And poking her head out from behind him was Zoey.
For a split second, it felt like a suffocating wave of despair crashed over me, leaving me frozen in place.
So, they had stayed out together all night?
The receptionist's polite reminder snapped me back to reality. "Mr. Sterling, this lady says she needs to speak with you."
