Zoey's shy turn completely baffled both Caspian and me.

He gave me a helpless look before explaining, "You misunderstand, Dr. Zeller. Dr. Hayes and I were just discussing work."

Hearing this, she turned back around. Her eyes landed on where Caspian was holding my wrist as she said playfully, "Is that so?"

I calmly pulled my hand away, thanked Caspian, and said earnestly, "I'll seriously consider your offer, Dr. Cross."

Zoey's eyes widened in curiosity. "What offer, Selena? Can Ferris and I hear about it?"

She had a lively personality and was the youngest among us. Normally, I wouldn't have stooped to her level, but at that moment, a flicker of irritation inevitably flared up in my chest.

"The wind is too strong. I'm going back inside."

Caspian immediately followed. "Alright, I'll go with you."

Just before entering the cabin, I faintly heard Zoey's self-reproachful voice. "Did I ask something I shouldn't have?"

She was likely saying it for Ferris to hear.

But I hadn't made up an excuse to go inside. I had been feeling unwell all day, and now that sour feeling in my stomach was rising again. Not wanting to make a fool of myself once more, I quietly headed to the restroom.

There was a lot of chatter outside, so I guessed the light show was about to start.

After steadying myself, I hurried out of the restroom, only to bump into Ferris a few steps later.

He was on the phone.

I planned to casually walk past him, but just as I passed by, I heard a cold scoff from his lips. "It seems I really underestimated you."

I stopped instantly. As my eyes swept over his chiseled profile, I heard him add, "In Port Capital, you were busy buddying up with my old classmate. And now in Skye City, you've hooked up with the star of another hospital. You really keep yourself busy all day, don't you, Dr. Hayes?"

Hooked up? Busy?

I silently stared at Ferris as the anger I had suppressed for the past few days instantly boiled over.

I had held my tongue time and time again because we were on a business trip. Did he really think I had no temper at all?
