The Cold Surgeon's Contract Bride novel Chapter 100

She was calling me out.

But how could I be compared to Ferris?

He had a private car waiting for him the moment he got off the plane. As an ordinary wage earner who couldn't expose my identity as his wife, I had to wait in line for a cab like everyone else. Naturally, it took more time.

I argued back in my head, but didn't have the energy to say a single word out loud.

Perhaps because of the wind on the deck last night, my head felt incredibly heavy right now.

As the food was served, Vivian immediately scooped a bowl of soup for Ferris, fussing over him with endless questions and care. It was a perfect picture of maternal love and filial devotion. As for me, I might as well have been invisible.

I had planned to eat this meal in silence, but a second later, the familiar scent of durian hit my nose.

Nausea struck immediately. I covered my mouth, unable to hold back a few dry heaves.

Vivian froze for two seconds before asking in concern, "Why are you suddenly throwing up? Are you feeling unwell? Should I have Dr. Whittaker come over to take a look?"

Dr. Whittaker was the Sterling family's private doctor. Thanks to Vivian's care, I had my blood drawn by him twice.

Whenever they suspected I was pregnant.

It only took a moment for me to grasp her underlying meaning. As my gaze swept over the durian pastries on the table, my stomach churned violently once again.

I remembered when I first joined the Sterling family. The kitchen staff had asked if I had any dietary restrictions, and I explicitly mentioned that I couldn't tolerate the smell of durian.

Three years had passed, and it seemed no one remembered.

My role as the wife of the Sterling family was essentially that of an invisible person.

Even Ferris, sitting right beside me and seeing how miserable I looked, didn't say a single word to explain on my behalf—even though just a day ago, I had vomited violently because of the same scent.

In the past, I would have probably hidden in the restroom alone and silently endured the discomfort. But today, I changed my mind.
