The Cold Surgeon's Contract Bride novel Chapter 101

Ferris lost his composure right in front of everyone.

The staff rushed over in a panic. Vivian frantically handed him tissues. The notoriously germaphobic man stared at the few drops of golden chicken broth on his cuff with a dark expression and headed straight for the restroom.

Vivian wisely dropped the subject.

Honestly, I hadn't intentionally directed the crossfire at Ferris. But after all, he was the one who had admired the river view with Zoey. Technically, I had taken the fall for him. Shouldn't a normal person show at least a little gratitude?

But Ferris didn't.

Since that was the case, I could only show him that I might take the blame once, but I wouldn't be his shield every time.

Five minutes later, Ferris returned to the living room in a fresh shirt. He shot me a glance and said, "We're short on time. Let's head back."

That was exactly what I wanted. Just as I was secretly celebrating, my gaze swept over the man's cold, somber eyes, and a shiver ran down my spine.

It seemed Dr. Sterling was angry again.

I sat in the passenger seat as we left the old estate. A moment later, the engine roared, and the imposing G-Wagon shot forward like a wild beast.

My body lurched forward uncontrollably. I gripped the seatbelt tight, the wind howling past my ears as my heart practically leaped out of my chest.

Tension and fear swirled within me. In my panic, I clutched the strap and squeezed my eyes shut.

I didn't know how much time had passed when a screeching halt sent my body violently forward. By the time I opened my eyes, Ferris had already pulled over.

The man kept his face dark and silent, his slender fingers tapping lightly against the steering wheel as if weighing his options.

Seriously? All this anger over two drops of chicken broth?

I opened my mouth to ask, but my stomach felt like it was on fire, burning with nausea.

My breathing grew heavy.

A second later, I threw the car door open and leaned over the curb, dry-heaving.

"Was it fun?" The interrogation rang in my ears. Ferris stood beside me, his tone laced with displeasure. "Do you get a kick out of deliberately provoking them?"

Deliberately? Provoking?

I looked at him in total confusion, my voice thick with grievance. "Are you saying I was the one who started it?"
