Chapter 447
Ellie’s POV
“Amelia!”
I was moving before I could think about it, hitting my knees in the grass next to her.
“It hurts,” she whimpered, looking up at me with wide, glassy eyes.
“I know. Let me see..” I gently pulled her hands away from the wound and hissed through my teeth. Behind me, Nico and Bastian came skidding to a stop. I heard Bastian curse.
“How bad is it?” Nico asked.
I shot him a look that said “Bad, but I can’t say that in front of her,” which he seemed to understand. He nodded, jaw tightening, and didn’t mention it further. Amelia whimpered.
I looked back down at the wound. It was a gaping gash right in the center of her belly, the kind of wound that would already be difficult enough to handle on my own in the clinic, let alone in the middle of nowhere without my medical supplies on me. Dammit, why hadn’t I at least thought to bring my first aid kit?
Bastian, for his part, understood this even without medical experience.
“We can carry her back to the village,” he said. “Patch her up there.”
“No.” I passed my hand over my face and shook my head. “No, it’s too far, and we can’t move her. It’ll just make it worse.”
“We have to do something!” Nico protested. “She might-”
“Quiet, Nico.” Bastian grabbed his brother’s arm, silencing him.
I looked at Amelia again. She was still looking at me, eyes wide and terrified. Her skin was officially the color of ash now, blood still gushing like a constant river from the wound. If I didn’t act quickly, she was going to die, and we all knew it. So did she.
“Please help me,” she whispered. “I don’t wanna die.”
“You’re not going to die. Not on my watch.” I stood, turning to my brothers. “Wait here. I’ll be right back.”
“What?” Nico took a step after me. “Where are you going?”
“I’m going to find a plant.”
“A plant?” Bastian hissed. “How the fuck is a plant going to help this?”
“Here.” I grabbed my towel and shoved it into his hands. “Keep pressure on the wound, and keep her awake. I won’t be long.”
My brothers stared after me as I walked off into the woods, not in the direction of the village but the complete opposite. I didn’t look back at them, and instead let the thread pull me where it wanted to go.
I could feel it now, that familiar energy pulsing beneath my awareness. It was becoming easier to access as of

late; I’d had enough practice by this point to know how to activate the Seeker ability, and when to follow it, trusting it until it led me in the right direction, just as it always did.
The pull intensified, growing stronger and thicker as I moved closer. I picked my pace up to a run, my bare feet slipping on the wet grass, following that pull through a copse of birch trees and into a small clearing I never would have stumbled on by accident.
A single plant grew there. I recognized it this time, practically shining up at me from across the way. It was the exact same plant that had saved my leg when that wild boar shattered my shin bone. Fuzzy leaves peeking up from between a pile of dead plant detritus.
I tore three leaves free and ran back the way I’d come.
Amelia was barely conscious by the time I returned, dropping to my knees beside her. Bastian had the towel pressed firmly to her wound. It was already stained red. Her head was in Nico’s lap, his fingers gently patting her cheeks in an attempt to keep her awake.
“What is that?” Nico asked, looking at the leaves in my hand.
“God’s Tongue,” I said. “It’ll heal the wound in seconds.”
Bastian made a low sound in his throat, something like a growl, as if he thought I was totally full of shit. I ignored him.
“Chew this.” I pressed the leaves into her mouth, then worked her jaw with my hand. “Come on. Chew.”
