The Luna Queen's Rebirth (Ellie and Dominic) novel Chapter 461

Chapter 461

I cried a little. It wasn’t from pain-he was too gentle for that, endlessly, achingly gentle-but from the sheer unfairness of spending two lifetimes not knowing it could feel like this. Every lonely night of that first marriage, every cold stretch of mattress, every time I’d hugged my own arms and pretended it counted.

All of it ached in me all at once, and all of it was being rewritten, one touch at a time.

“I’ve got you,” he murmured, kissing the tears from my cheeks without ever slowing. “I’ve got you, my love.”

My love.

The words settled somewhere deep and warm in my chest.

It built between us slowly until it wasn’t slow anymore, until the whole world had narrowed down to his hands and his mouth and the place where we were joined. And when we finally fell over that edge, we fell together, his name breaking out of me while everything I felt for him bloomed through my chest in a kaleidoscope of heat and color and light.

For a long time afterward, neither of us moved. His heart hammered under my palm. Mine matched it beat for beat. A perfect tandem.

When the silence had stretched on so long I thought he’d fallen asleep, I lifted my head. He was watching me in the dim orange light with an expression I’d never seen on him before. Resolved and vulnerable all at once.

Slowly, he tilted his head to the side, baring the line of his neck to me. Vivian’s mark sat there, red and raw against his skin.

“Mark me,” he said softly.

I tensed, fingers spreading across his chest. “Dominic, are you sure-

“Cover it. Blot it out. Make it mean nothing.” He found my hand and pressed it hard against his skin, just as he had in the alley, but even firmer now, more certain. His eyes met mine in the dark, his voice low and husky. “I want to be yours, Ellie. Fully. All of it.”

“I’m terrified,” I whispered. Because I was, and because I was done lying to him.

“I already promised you. Your heart is mine, and I’ll take good care of it. Let me start proving it tonight.”

My wolf rose in my chest, ready. She, at least, had made up her mind a long time ago.

I looked at that ugly red mark. I thought about Vivian in a cell, about everything she’d taken from me across two lifetimes, and everything she’d failed to take.

I leaned in.

My fangs slid free on instinct. I pressed a kiss to his neck first, right over the mark-an apology for the pain to come. His hand came up to cradle the back of my head.
