The Luna Queen's Rebirth (Ellie and Dominic) novel Chapter 464

Chapter 464

Dominic’s POV

Vivian perked up the moment she realized I’d come back alone.

“Change of heart already?” she asked, smiling. Like there was anything to smile about.

“One question.” I stopped in front of the bars and dropped my voice, slipping my hand into my pocket. “Monroe. How much did he take?”

Her expression flickered.

“Who says he took anything?” she asked, tilting her head.

“I saw the three bank transfers on his desk. I heard his Beta arguing about a payment that had to clear before we reached Goldenveil. Not to mention the four-hundred-year-old law that he just randomly decided to dust off two days before I met ‘Lady Everheart’, the woman he tried so desperately to set me up with.” I tilted my head.” Should I keep going?”

Vivian looked down at her lap. Down here, without the veil and the accent and the borrowed name, I could finally see the panic on her face. It was the same panic I’d seen the night I cast her out of the pack. Good. I liked seeing her squirm lately.

“He just promised to help me match up with you,” she said.

“How much?” I snarled.

“I’m not entirely sure.”

I frowned. “So someone else handled that, then.”

Vivian said nothing at that, but she didn’t need to. She’d been a rogue for months. Rogues didn’t exactly have King-bribing money. Even taken in by the Beta family, I doubted she had access to those kinds of funds.

So who else did?

“Vivian.” I gripped the bars with both hands. “Who were you working with?”

“Does it matter?” she said. “It’s over. You’ve got me in a cell. Just like your little mate always wanted.”

“Vivian.”

“I never wanted to hurt you,” she said, a little frantic now. “Whatever you think of me, that part is true. Everything I did, the veil, the arrangement, all of it, I was only trying to help along something that should have happened years ago.” She rose from the cot and came to the bars, wrapping her fingers around the iron. I didn’t pull back, even as my wolf snarled at the proximity. “We were meant to be together. You felt it once, before she got in the way. I was just correcting fate’s mistake.”

I looked at her. At the fingers on the bars, the wide, imploring eyes, the face that had fooled a grieving family. And me, for far too long.

“You’re mistaken,” I said coldly. “Fate never made a mistake in giving me Ellie instead of you. In fact, fate did me a service by setting the clocks back to a time before it all happened, allowing me to right everything.”

Her knuckles whitened around the iron. “So you believe her little fairytale.”

“Of course I do,” I said. “Because I love her in all the timelines that have been presented to me. You could hand me a thousand lifetimes, Vivian, and I would still choose her in every single one. I hope you understand that now.”

Vivian’s mouth hung open, but I was done here. I had what I needed. It wasn’t everything I’d hoped for, but it was enough.
