Chapter 465
Ellie’s POV
My father’s house was warm and comforting. I wasn’t sure why I had taken the walk up here, or why I had made myself a cup of tea in the empty kitchen, or why I found myself sitting cross-legged in one of the plush chairs by the sitting room window, looking out over the village below. I just knew I wanted to be here, surrounded by the scents of a family I never thought I would have.
It also helped that no one was home right now. The house was quiet, a far cry from the noise in the village, where the Alpha King’s caravan was currently pulling out and my father was still dealing with the aftermath of everything that had happened.
It all felt so surreal. Finally, after two lifetimes of pain, Vivian was in a cell. She couldn’t hurt me anymore.
My fingers drifted up to the silvery mark that Dominic had left on my skin so many months ago. It hummed from the touch in a way it hadn’t before now that our bond had been renewed in the most intimate way possible, and for a moment, I was back there in that little apartment, tangled up in the sheets with the man I loved for the first time in two lives.
“You okay?” Dominic’s voice came through the bond, steady and deep. I nearly spilled my tea.
“I’m fine. Just reeling a little, that’s all.”
“Where are you? I want to see you.”
“My father’s house.”
Dominic said he was on his way, sending an image along with it-an image of the two of us, alone somewhere dark and warm, repeating last night over and over again until it hurt. Heat crept up my neck, and I had to press my thighs together as fresh arousal shot through me.
This was going to take some getting used to.
A moment later, I heard the front door open.
“There she is,” Nico announced, stomping snow off his boots. Amelia ducked in behind him, cheeks pink from the cold, a covered dish balanced in her hands.
“Your dad said you were holed up here,” she said, setting the dish on the coffee table. “We brought food. You barely touched anything yesterday.”
Nico dropped into the chair across from me, propped his chin on his fist, and stared at me as I opened the dish. My mouth watered instantly at the sight of a meaty stew, still steaming, the potatoes soaked full of the rich broth.
He was still staring when I dunked a spoon into it and took a bite.
“What?” I asked around the mouthful.
“Something’s different.” His eyes narrowed. “You look… I don’t know. Rested.”
“I slept well.”
