Chapter 466
“And if you’re not smiling?”
“Then everyone drinks to your doom instead. It’s very flexible.”
“Absolutely not,” I said.
Amelia’s face fell. “Why not?”
“Because my sister is sitting in a cell under the meeting house as we speak. The Beta family is grieving over it. The last thing anyone needs is to throw a party for me.” I shook my head. “It wouldn’t be right.”
“That’s exactly why it would be right,” Amelia said. “Ellie, if there’s one thing Goldenveil wolves do to feel better, it’s dance.”
“And drink,” Nico pointed out, holding up one finger.
“I’d really rather-”
“Rather what?”
Dominic’s voice came from the doorway. He stepped inside, snow in his hair, and the bond gave a warm little pulse the moment his eyes found mine. Nico, the menace, was grinning before Dominic even got his coat off.
“Your mate doesn’t want a mating party,” he said.
Dominic raised a brow at me. “We’re having a mating party?”
“We are not.”
“Bonfire, dancing, ribbon ceremony,” Amelia said. “The whole village. It’s how Goldenveil celebrates a bond, fresh or renewed. Come on! It’ll be fun.”
I looked at Dominic imploringly, but to my horror, he was smiling.
“We did everything quietly the first time,” he said, crossing the room to me. “The wedding was politics. The mark was in a hospital room.” He took the spoon out of my hand and gently set it in the bowl, then brushed his thumb over my knuckles. “Wouldn’t it be kind of nice? To do it all over again?”
I swallowed hard, but this time, there was nothing to swallow.
“Like… a wedding?”
The tips of Dominic’s ears reddened. “Well… we could discuss that at a later date. I just want to dance with you.”
