The Luna Queen's Rebirth (Ellie and Dominic) novel Chapter 526

Chapter 526

At 2:10 I texted him. “Where are you? Baby and I are being very patient.”

The text was left on delivered.

2:30 came and went, and still no call no show from Dominic. Finally, fearing that he’d gotten too caught up in work again, I called him. It went to voicemail before the second ring, like he’d hit decline.

I pulled the phone away from my ear and frowned at the dark screen. “The hell?” I whispered.

“Dominic,” I texted again, “Where are you?”

“Ellie?” The nurse appeared in the doorway with a clipboard in her hands. She’d come by three times now, and each time I asked her to give me another minute, and each time she looked more annoyed.

“Could we “I glanced at the entrance. “Just five more minutes?”

The nurse pursed her lips. “I’m sorry, but the doctor doesn’t have all day,” she said. “You can come back another day, but you’ll have to pay the cancellation f*e at this point.”

I sighed, pushing myself up. “No, it’s fine. I’ll come.”

The nurse opened the door to the exam rooms. Just then, the clinic door swung open and Dominic came rushing through it, coat flapping behind him, slightly out of breath.

“I’m here,” he said, jogging up to me. “I’m sorry.”

“Where were you?” I hissed as we followed the nurse.

“I was, uh… in traffic.” The tips of his ears pinkened.

I stared at him. “Traffic.”

“Yup.”

That sounded like a lie, but I had to pee too bad to care at this point.

The exam room was dim and cool. I laid back on the crinkling paper, shirt folded up over the curve of my belly. Dominic took his usual post at my shoulder, my hand swallowed up in both of his.

The wand pressed down and the room filled with the sound of a tiny heartbeat. My breath hitched as a small, half -formed body appeared on the screen in black and white. Dominic’s hand tightened around mine. No matter how many times we went through this, his reaction was always the same. Full of awe and quiet wonder and perhaps a healthy dose of fear, as if we might find out there was an alien inside of me.

“Everything looks perfect,” the ultrasound tech said, smiling. “Right on schedule for five months.” She glanced between us. “Did we want to know the gender today?”

My mouth had gone dry. I nodded. Dominic held his breath beside me.
