The Luna Queen's Rebirth (Ellie and Dominic) novel Chapter 528

Chapter 528

Thankfully, I’d managed to keep my head above water despite his attacks. Having Ellie back helped, and both of us had worked our asses off to keep things from going south, something that I appreciated more than I could put into words. But now that the event announcement was out, Monroe probably knew I had plans, and he had come here to stop them.

He was sitting in my chair when I entered my office, legs crossed, fingers tented in his lap.

“Monroe,” I said coolly, hanging my jacket on the hook by the door, ring box and pictures and all. “You didn’t make an appointment.”

The Alpha King smiled and spread his hands wide. “I didn’t think it was necessary.”

“Not typically,” I said, planting my hands on my hips. “For you, though, I would have made an exception.”

His lips pressed into a thin line. There was no point in pleasantries anymore, and we both knew it. We’d both said plenty of vile things about the other during this whole campaign that hellos and how-are-yous were completely moot at this point.

“Well?” I asked. “What do you want?”

Monroe’s jaw tightened. He stood. “I heard about your little event in the spring. Needless to say, I’m surprised I was invited.”

“Everyone and their mother was invited, so don’t take it personally,” I pointed out. “Is that why you came? To thank me for putting you on the list? You know you could have just sent an RSVP, right?”

His smile returned, although this time as a sneer. “Hardly. I don’t plan to attend. Because you won’t be hosting it.”

I tilted my head. “I won’t?”

“No,” he said, crossing the room and stopping a few paces away from me, a careful distance. “I know what you and those rednecks from up north are planning. And it won’t happen.”

“Why shouldn’t it?”

“Because,” Monroe growled, “that little ‘Lycan culture’ nonsense, or whatever you seem to think of it as, will ruin some very important investments for me.”
