Chapter 542

Ellie’s POV

+15 Bonus

There were six of them and one of me. Five rogues were up on the slope, spread out along the bank so there was no gap to slip through, and one down here in the creek with me. And here I was, pregnant and alone, a good half- mile away from Dominic-who was currently high as a kite, twirling in the field.

“You’re an awful long wya from the champagne, lady,” said the one on the bank. He had a cleft lip, and seemed to be the one who was in charge. “Go on back up the hill, Luna. Sit down. Have a nice night. Enjoy the show.”

“You’re working for Monroe, aren’t you?” I asked, looking between them. I jutted my chin out. “How much did he pay you? I’ll triple it if you leave me alone.”

Split Lip’s grin didn’t falter. “Honey, he offered us a whole hell of a lot more than money.” His eyes went to my belly, tongue coming out to lick his cracked mouth.

I put my hand over the swell of my stomach. As if that would help if they decided to attack the seven-months- pregnant woman all by herself.

“You don’t want to hurt me,” I said.

“Who said I was gonna hurt you? I want you alive. Gotta finish the boss’s job.” He spread his hands, grinning now. “Your friends destroyed our camp. Killed most of us. But some survived. And we’re still loyal to the cause.”

My stomach dropped as it hit me. These weren’t just any rogues; they were from Gareth’s camp. His loyal followers to the end. And now I was pregnant with the baby from the prophecy, full of Lycan blood.

I went to take a step back, but I didn’t get far. One of the rogues had come up behind me and gave me a nudge forward, laughing as I stumbled.

Just then, I felt it. The bond suddenly flared to life.

“I’m here,” Dominic’s voice said, not quite sounding like his own.

I gasped, my eyes immediately finding the source of the mindlink. Dominic rose from the bushes, disheveled, covered in dirt, his eyes still dark with pupils that were too wide.

Split Lip saw me looking and turned.

Dominic shot toward him.

“No!” I cried out. “Dominic, you can’t-”

Too late.

Dominic slammed into one of the rogues, the two of them sprawling across the ground and hitting the creek so hard water sprayed everywhere, cold and sudden. I let out a cry and stumbled back into the rogue behind me, who caught me by the arm and held on fast.
