103 Bothered
Returning back to the sitting room, Ophelia was glad that Lev didn’t protest. Actually, he said nothing
She released his arm and he went on to sit on the cushion, looking lost in his thoughts.
“Are you okay?” She curiously questioned him.
“Do you believe Sasha is okay?” Lev asked her, his eyes widening, before he sighed and got to his feet. “Perhaps I should return,”
He was instantly dragged back and coaxed onto the chair by Ophelia. “Don’t. She is with family, so she will be fine.”
“Why did she suddenly get into such a panic? I don’t…” He stopped abruptly, his eyes widening, and he wrapped his arms about himself. “Did she believe I was just some random male? Gods! I forgot she’s in heat.”
Ophelia fought back a smile. Lev was extremely concerned about Sasha from the minute they entered the training ground. However, about Sasha’s unexpected demeanor toward him, as well as Vladmir’s remarks when they initially got to the training ground, she could tell what was happening.
“I think you should avoid her until tomorrow. Ophelia advised and he nodded slowly.
“Alright. However, are we attending the festival and the coronation?” He asked inquisitively.
Ophelia pressed her lips. At the festival prior to the coronation, she
intended to enjoy herself with Nikolai, but due to the full moon effect, she
was advised to avoid him.
“Maybe.” She forced a grin in response and sat down next to him. “You

should return home.”
“I can’t leave you here, I’m sorry. I’ve been away from you for three hundred years, and to be honest, River welcomed me warmly, Ruslan and Zeldin weren’t around, mother and father didn’t welcome me as I had hoped they would, and you just fled away from me. It appeared as though you were contemplating suicide. I believed you were going to leave me.”
“I won’t ever leave you behind.” Ophelia smiled. “River still visits Antica, still thinks of it as his second home, and he does so because there are people he
needs to look out for.”
“You came to Celestia to look out for Nikolai? I thought you planned to kill him in order to keep us safe. Mother may already be suffering from father’s emotional abuse.” Lev murmured anxiously.
“He was the one who broke our family.” Ophelia sighed. “But… I’m sorry.”
Lev’s eyes widened at her sudden apology. “Why are you…”
“I hurt you badly.. I still have nightmares about it.” Ophelia’s voice shook.
“No… No it wasn’t your fault, you shouldn’t blame yourself, I’ve always wanted to tell you this… it wasn’t your fault, it was just something you couldn’t control that’s all.” Lev whispered.
Anxiously, Ophelia swallowed. At that point, she understood that the only memory she had of her early years was all that had happened after Lev had been hurt. The realization that she had never really given it any thought caused her eyes to widen in disbelief.
“What’s wrong?” Lev worriedly enquired.
Ophelia sighed, “I think something…” She paused to see his expression of interest before forcing a smile. “It’s nothing.”
“You don’t seem like yourself today.” Lev mumbled and put his hand on top of hers.

“That’s because I miss a psychopath. It feels like I haven’t seen him for three hundred.” She groaned and laughed.
The room was suddenly filled with his dark presence.
“Goddess!”
When Ophelia turned to face the entryway, she noticed him slouching casually against the wall with his eyes primarily concentrated on her and periodically flickering in a lethally menacing direction at Lev.
She smiled, shook her head, got to her feet, and rushed up to him. “Why are you here?”
Nikolai arched his eyebrow. “To see you?”
“But Rhaziel said..”
“Darling,” With a low murmur, Nikolai cut in and softly pushed her hair away from her face as he pulled her near to him. “Do you believe I’ll abuse my position as Alpha?”
“Yes.” He led his fingers to Ophelia’s lips, caressing them slowly and sensually as she nodded and parted her lips in response.
“I intend to kill my father and I had the blood pearl stolen.” Nikolai whispered, before curling his finger under her chin.
“Why would you…”
“I want to know who wants to be the next puppeteer.” Nikolai said, forming a sinister grin on his face.
“Nikolai, this is dangerous.” Ophelia said worriedly. “You don’t have to do
this.”
“There are things that I don’t know, Ophelia, things that I do know but am hiding from you out of concern for your safety, and then there are things that are kept because they should be.”

“But you wish to unveil everything yourself in order to protect…”
“Us.”
Ophelia sighed and dipped her head, but he lifted her by the chin. “Will you achieve inner peace if you murder your father?”
In response to her question, Nikolai smiled. “Of course, I never take action without a good reason.”
father would not want to be killed by his own child. I know he has been…..”
To stop her from talking, Nikolai placed his fingers on her lips. “Don’t.”
Ophelia groaned. “Can we go to the festival now that you are here?”
“You haven’t had breakfast,” Nikolai tilted his head to the side, took her hand in his, and left the room without saying a word and Lev, who had been uncomfortable staring at them, cleared his throat forcefully.
With each step they made down the corridor, Ophelia noticed that Nikolai was tightening his hold on her. Was he bothered by something or was it merely the full moon’s effect?
She suddenly stopped, and he stopped as well, as if he had read her mind.
“Do you feel okay?” asked Ophelia, glancing intently at his face to look for any signs of tension.
“No.” Nikolai retorted.
“What’s wrong?”
“Father referred to me as a bastard.” With a blank countenance and a monotone tone, Nikolai responded. Although he showed no signs of hurt, he was troubled.
