Hearing those words, which flowed smoothly like a cooing demon’s murmur, Ophelia immediately understood why Rhaziel had advised her and Nikolai to keep their distance until after midnight. Both his emotions and his demon state were being affected by the moon.
She glanced at him, displaying no signs of anxiety. “Nikolai,”
He blinked and raised his eyebrows in a mild gesture of astonishment before saying, “I’m sorry.” and his face became utterly somber.
“Understandable.” Ophelia nodded slowly and feigned a smile as he took a small step away from her.
Nikolai sighed, rubbing his neck and his eyes returned to their blazing
crimson state. “I should leave,”
Ophelia took a step forward as her eyes landed on the snake tattoo. “No. We should stay together.”
“What if I hurt you?” Nikolai questioned, staring at her attentively.
She remained silent. His lips twitched.
He cooed, “Ophelia,” and leaned in close. “I also don’t want to leave, but once my demon state gets out of control, not even Rhaziel can stop me.”
“Your demon state is still you.” Ophelia sighed.
“Yes, but it’s a darker side of me I don’t fully trust with you.” Nikolai grumbled and she nodded slowly.
“You can control that aspect of yourself.” She retorted with a smile as she took his hand in theirs and led the way to the dining area, where Yulia and Vladmir were already seated and taking their time to eat their meals in style.

Yulia smiled at Ophelia asking, “You’re hungry?”
“Why else would she be in this place?” Nikolai bluntly questioned.
Yulia grimaced. “I did not ask you.”
“Then I can at least respond to a corpse.” Nikolai deadpanned.
Vladmir choked while Yulia’s eyes grew wide.
elia groaned loudly. “Sit down,” and Nikolai did so grudgingly.
ess the full moon effect is having that kind of an effect on him, huh.” ia grumbled and chewed her food while scowling at Nikolai.
Why do you speak as though you are unsure?” Ophelia questioned, as she sat in the chair next to Nikolai.
The table was quickly filled as maids entered with plates and trays packed with various sizzling treats.
“During the full moon effect, Nikolai was constantly confined to the dungeon or taken care of by Tiana. He never appears to us during that time.” Vladmir said, dabbing his lips with a tissue in an elegant manner.
Ophelia turned to face Nikolai, who kept silent as he loaded a dish with food and set it in front of her. She wondered what was going on in his thoughts because he didn’t seem to be moved by their statements.
“I’ll serve you as well.” She said to him, but he grabbed her wrist, preventing her from reaching for any dishes.
“I’m full.”
“You are.”
“As long as no one provokes me, I’ll be fine soon.” He assured her
fore releasing her wrist and giving her a glass of wine. “Eat

Ophelia smiled at him and began eating. The subsequent hush in the dining room sped up and made it easier for her to finish her food. She felt protected and less tense than she anticipated despite Nikolai being totally icy. She was glad. /
As soon as Ophelia finished, Nikolakrose to his feet, but he turned right away from her to look at Vladmir, who was still eating his food. He devoured food like a peacock. Nikolai shrugged his shoulders.
“Do you know who stole the blood pearl?” He casually enquired.
His question left Yulia and Ophelia both looking surprised.
Pursing his lips, Vladmir gulped his meal. “The magic sense is gone… but I can probably sense it again by midnight, but I’ll need Sasha’s help.”
“She’s in heat, so she won’t be able to do anything.” Ophelia was curiously staring at Nikolai when he spoke, and Nikolai turned to face her. “Shall we go to the festival?”
Ophelia nodded and got to her feet. “Yes.”
Nikolai nodded and held her hand.
Yulia sighed heavily as she dipped her fork into her cheesecake as she watched her cousin and the dragoness depart the dining area. “They seem to work so well together.”
“And until they avoid one another, they are doomed.” Vladmir tsked, as he
took a taste of his wine.
Yulia regarded him as if he had murdered her beloved pet. “Why must you always be critical?”
“I always tell the truth. I am a seer after all.” Vladmir said proudly.
“Nikolai actually looks happy with her. Why are they doomed?” Yulia asked sadly.

“I believed you disdain the dragoness,” Vladmir, moved by Yulia’s remarks, inquired.
“I did… It was all in the past. She is in fact quite generous and a good match for Nikolai. Oh! and they are married.”
Vladmir sputtered.
“Oops!” Yulia gasped, covering her mouth with her hand.
“Married?!” Vladmir yelled out and Yulia nodded slowly.
“You don’t know?” She gasped then laughed mockingly. “I thought you were
a seer?”
Vladmir frowned. “You know nothing! This is not good. This is not good at
all.”
Like in the hallway earlier, Nikolai’s grip on Ophelia’s hand grew tighter with each step, down the castle’s stairs. Ophelia didn’t jerk away from him even though it was beginning to ache.
She turned to face Nikolai, who was concentrating on the steps and smiled as she observed how amazing his side view was. Every time his hair waved away from his neck, she could see the snake tattoo.
He always wore cloaks that covered his neck, and most of the tine, his hair covered the remaining ink on his body. She questioned his tattoo’s origin.
“Do you want horseback riding, carriage riding, or do you just want to ride me?” Nikolai abruptly murmured in a sensuous yet completely casual
manner.
