Those words, which Viktor spoke as though recalling a terrible past, struck Ophelia with shock. A recollection that she was completely unable to recall.

“Why didn’t anyone inform me of the physical battle that actually took place on the battlefield?” She slowly inquired.

For years, the only thing that had been spoken was that Fireria and Celestia were at war, and that most of the time when the two kingdoms clashed, blood was always shed. Although they had visited the battlefield numerous times, there was no memory of a war that started solely because Nikolai

stabbed her.

“Nikolai stabbed me?” She questioned, her voice low from the fear and shock pulsing through her.

“No no…” She sighed deeply and turned to face Viktor, who appeared to be attempting to calm her down. “So it appears that you are familiar with me. Why did I and Nikolai… fight?”

“I…” Viktor shook his head. “To be completely honest, I’m not entirely sure why. While you were unconscious and covered in blood, he was sobbing.”

Ophelia heaved a long sigh. She was unaware that it was this profound. So profound that her future spouse had stabbed her when she was a young child. She bit her bottom lip, wondering why she didn’t feel wrath or betrayal, but rather shock and doubt. Was this how she was supposed to feel?

“Did you learn what kind of witches were on their way to Nikolai last night?” She asked something unrelated to the original query. She wanted to speak with the witch, the seer, and later her good friend Esmeralda who had originally given her the idea for all of this.

There was a lot Nikolai was hiding from her. Much about him and much about her. Those details were connected, hazardous, and mostly, they made up the memories she had lost and yearned to reclaim.

“Red moon witches from Tiana Novikov’s clan.” Viktor disclosed.

“What?” Ophelia’s eyes widened. “Witches from Tiana’s clan? Why would they try to rile Nikolai up so that he may scuttle the coronation?”

The situation was drastically changing. She needed to ascertain what was occurring beneath her nose.

Who was commanding the red moon witches?

She turned away but Viktor grasped her wrist and she sent him a glare.

“Unhand me.”

“Oh… I…” He released her wrist carefully.

“Did Tiana do anything to Nikolai…That evil?” He slowly asked.

Ophelia exhaled deeply, giving him an incredulous look. “Why are you asking me this?”

“Because Nikolai has faith in you.” Viktor quickly responded.

“What is your goal, if I may ask?” asked Ophelia. “Will you take my word for anything? Anything from a dragon?”

“I told you that I must defend Nikolai as well as my home and family.” He harshly remarked before taking a long breath and dropping his head. “And I’ll trust you because he values you greatly and I know you’ll go to great lengths for him.”

Ophelia pressed her lips. Initially taken aback by his statements, she then smiled. “And for this reason, you will serve as his beta.” She then turned and walked away.

“What?! I am?!” Viktor gasped in surprise as he awkwardly pursued Ophelia, who was being pursued by the Tiger Phoenix.

In the library, Sasha was at a deep section close to the restricted section that contained books of everything forbidden.

She was still wearing the clothing she had worn to the coronation, revealing that she had spent the entire night at the library looking for knowledge in all the volumes she believed would provide her answers.

She effortlessly yanked a large book out of its spot, threw it to the floor, knelt down, and meticulously examined the pages with her eyes, which were squinted into their emerald wolf-like form.

“All these…” She slammed the book shut, muttering an exasperated grunt.

“Useless!”

Standing up and running her fingers through her hair, she sighed as a calming scent assaulted her nostrils, instantly erasing all of her issues and

concerns.

“I can’t avoid him.” She whispered, resting her back against the hard shelf, hiding her face with her hands. There was no need to avoid him when they were going to meet no matter how much she would run away from him.

Lev approached the row of shelves that rose to where she was standing. He appeared to be going through the books on the shelf in search of a certain book.

Sasha reluctantly took her hands away from her face, and as her eyes met Lev’s, she felt so ashamed that she had no control over the emotion. She quickly turned away.

Viktor called quietly, “Hello there,” and approached her.

Sasha inhaled deeply before cautiously turning to face him. “Hello,” She said

with a stiff wave.

Lev smiled slightly. “How are you feeling right now? You were…”

“Better!” With a gasp, Sasha intervened and then wiped her forehead. “Please put the past behind you.”

Lev was surprised. “Why? The fact that you referred to me as your “mate”?”

Sasha took a step back. “I advised you to disregard it. You are not deaf, I’m very sure of that.” She said angrily, moved her focus to the book on the ground, picked it up, and quickly put it back where it belonged.

Lev kept focusing his attention on her. “Why did you tell me that I am your mate before that?” He questioned with a somewhat disappointed tone.

Sasha froze, turning stiffly to face him. “What?”

“If you had told me before that, you wouldn’t feel as ashamed as you do right now. I would’ve helped you.” He said looking and sounding very assured then he lowered his head, adding quietly. “Seeing you in that

condition worried me.”

Sasha took another step back, blinking and swallowing forcefully. “You should disregard your emotions.” She mumbled and turned away, but Lev caught her by her frock and drew her back to face him.

As their eyes locked once more, Sasha felt her heart skip a beat.

Lev let go gradually. It was a sturdy fabric.

“You felt it back in the Arena, right?” He questioned, furrowing his brows in expectation of an answer.

“No.” Sasha firmly denied.

Lev shook his head and grinned. “Don’t misrepresent me; I’m not a kid,”

“I am older.” Sasha hissed.

“It’s irrelevant,” Lev moved closer to her, whispering.

“I’m not looking for a dragon as my mate.” In an effort to evade his eyes, Sasha grumbled, lowered her gaze, and took a step back.

“You could say that this is how our gods have punished us.” Lev muttered.

Sasha raised her gaze in disbelief to meet his, but she quickly blinked and began to slowly shake her head to regain control. “You need to get out of Celestia.” She murmured as she ran past him and left the library.
