“Ah!” She cried out in pain, putting her palm on her head, completely unaware that blood was coming out of her nostrils.
“Ophelia!” Lev clutched her as he rose up, gasping in disbelief. “Blood!”
“Huh?” Ophelia asked, rubbing her head slowly as she struggled to keep her eyes open at this point.
“It hurts!” She screamed.
Viktor arrived at the scene appearing surprised at Ophelia’s current situation, and Pain approached her, purring with worry as he rubbed against her leg.
“What the hell is happening ?!” He yelled, scooped Ophelia up in his arms, and moved swiftly to the library’s main area, where he set her down on a
cushion.
“Wh…” He removed the blood stained mittens from her hands and tried to wipe the blood that was oozing from her nostrils, but it persisted.
She whimpered in anguish with her hands on her head and closed eyes.
Without knowing what else to do, Viktor ran his fingers through his hair. Nevertheless, he persisted in wiping the blood from her nose with the mittens in the hopes that it would cease soon.
“It hurts! Help, it hurts.” Ophelia sobbed, clutching his wrist. “Nik…”
She tightened her hold, causing Viktor to tense up. He forced a deep swallow and seized, wiping the blood with her mittens, staring at her with wide eyes.
He opened his mouth to speak, but as he was about to, he felt a familiar, dark presence behind him, and he sprang away from Ophelia as if he had

been caught stealing.
He turned to see Nikolai, who had completely disregarded him before
rushing towards Ophelia, grabbing her in his arms, and then vanishing from
view.
“Goddess!” he exclaimed with a whisper, furiously rubbing his forehead.
Ophelia was gently placed on the bed by Nikolai, but because she was holding onto his cloak, it was difficult for him to stand up straight when he wanted to. He was shocked to see her hand covered in blood, and he quickly held up her palm to see a wound that was beginning to mend.
“You’re hurting yourself already, and the day isn’t even half over!” he put his hand on her forehead and grunted as his eyes transformed it into their thick, black demon form.
“You’ll be fine, I promise.” He continued in a more composed voice, then heaved a heavy breath of relief as she stopped whimpering and her tense visage relaxed.
“This…” His conscience tore at his heart.
“I didn’t know my actions would make you experience such pain.” He brought his fingers to her nose and wiped away the last of the blood.
“You made a stupid choice.” Ophelia mumbled pathetically. Her golden, reptilian-like eyes slowly opened.
Nikolai sighed. “I did it to keep you safe.”
Ophelia responded, releasing her grip on his cloak, “I don’t see it as protecting me Nikolai,” and then raised herself into a sitting position.
She looked at him with the intention of reprimanding him, but the intense worry in his eyes caused her to sigh and turn her head away.

“I heard from Viktor that you stabbed me, starting a three-year war.” Ophelia murmured.
Nikolai adopted a stern expression and straightened himself. He remained
silent.
Ophelia grinned as she turned to face him, demanding an explanation. She could tell he didn’t want to respond, by the sudden grim expression on his face.
“Do you want me to believe in that dark mind of yours?” She inquired
severely and got up from the bed, coming to a stop in front of him, looking him square in the eyes. “When we were children, my spouse stabbed me without cause. What does that ring like to you?”
“There was a good reason.” Nikolai responded with a dismal tone.
“Tell me then,” Ophelia murmured and her dagger materialized in her
bloodied hand.
Nikolai turned his back. “You should rest a bit.”
“If you want us to have a relationship, Nikolai, let’s start by developing trust.” Ophelia said sternly.
Nikolai shifted his attention back to her. “Does trust involve destroying the reason I erased your memories? What made me stab you? How come I nearly killed you?” Every word he spoke was tinged with intense shame and regret, which he made no attempt to hide.
“Yes.” Ophelia let out a breath.
Nikolai’s eyes grew wider. “What do you have in mind for that?” he asked and yanked the dagger from her. “You continue to harm yourself. You’re not
a masochist.”
“Nikolai.” Ophelia drewled, grabbing his cloak.

“Ophelia.”
“Tell me.”
“If I tell you, you will hate me Nikolai muttered, clutching the handle tightly.
Ophelia was surprised. Was his reason that… Bad? He didn’t look comfortable speaking about it. He didn’t want to, and it seemed that whatever the cause, it was a memory he wished he could forget.
Trust…. Did she believe in herself that if he revealed his reason, she wouldn’t despise him? Was there an absolute guarantee that he wouldn’t do it again?
“I’m not that inquisitive, so don’t tell me.” She breathed out and attempted a grin.
“You are a bad liar.” Nikolai hissed, dropped the dagger, cupped her face and captured her lips.
Ophelia returned the kiss with the same fervor, grinning against his lips. But as soon as she closed her eyes, a vision of a woman draped in a crimson mist flashed in her mind, causing her to gasp, break the kiss, and stagger
away.
Just before she fell, Nikolai caught her by the waist. He worriedly regarded her. “What triggered your headache?” He enquired because he was aware that whatever was causing her headache was a resurfacing memory.
I…” Ophelia faltered as she rubbed her head slowly. “A woman shrouded in a red mist… I can’t really see her face clearly.”
Nikolai’s face once more took on a grave expression. “What did you come upon today?”
“Huh?” Ophelia questioned, blinking at him.

“Do you recall coming across anything unusual?” Nikolai enquired, holding her firmly.
“Lev… I followed Pain to the library because he was behaving oddly. Lev was
on the ground when I got to him.. he pointed at the restricted area and claimed to have seen a red mist.” Ophelia elucidated.
“Hmm.” Nikolai gave a somber nod.
“What’s going on?” Ophelia asked with interest.
“The blood pearl thief.” Nikolai said, tugging up the side of his lips.
“What?” Ophelia grimaced, covering her hand with her mouth. “Why in the world…” She stopped, her shocked eyes wide.
“Please don’t tell me,”
“My FireStorm is so clever.” Nikolai chuckled darkly.
“You’re luring that person?!” asked Ophelia. Instead of hitting him in the head as she had wanted to, she pushed him away by his chest, which caused him to chuckle and let go of her.
“She’s a witch. Specifically, a red moon witch.” Nikolai explained.
“Do you believe the witch gave the witches the order to provoke you?” Ophelia enquired with curiosity.
“Yes.” Nikolai nodded, snapping his fingers.. “The dragons went after you, didn’t they?”
Ophelia smirked as she sat on the bed with one leg propped up on top of
the other. “I took care of them.”
Nikolai made a step toward her, putting his hands at her sides, enclosing her in his arms, and leaning his face on hers. “You have my trust.”
“Shuu.” Ophelia put her hands on his shoulder, giggling.

“Possibly, I know who the witch is. She must be acquainted with the castle if she has the ability to break in.” Nikolai murmured, keeping his gaze on her lips.
Ophelia blinked and prepared to utter the first name that came to mind with a gentle parting of the lips. “It can’t be Tiana, you killed her, didn’t you?”
